I managed to acquire a cow moose tag this year in northern Maine. I?ve decide my primary weapon will be my Ruger Super Redhawk 480. The load I?ll be shooting is a 390gr powder coated cast hollow point over 14.5 grains of HS6. I?ve got it zeroed three inches high at 50 yards. My eye sight ain?t as good as it once was so I can?t shoot them little tight shot groups of yesteryears, but I?m definitely minute of moose. I should be good out to 100 yards with the iron sights. If the critters don?t cooperate with a comfortable iron sighted revolver shot, I?ll be taking my 270 win Encore for emergency situations. I?ve got some 130gr accubonds over a stiff dose of varget worked up for it - should be good out to 400 yards with that combo. Just a couple more weeks -can?t wait!

with a bullet in the right spot they are not hard to kill but they don`t know that... One of those Holland Tunnel HP`s in the lungs should give you a years worth of moose meat... the best of luck in the north country....

It?s a bullet that GlennS designed and Sixshot cast/powder coated. I?m fairly new at shooting cast bullets, but I?m taking a liking to them in some of my revolvers. Maybe sixshot or GlennS will be along to fill you in more in the bullet.

Glenn S was kind enough to assist me in purchasing that same mold. I haven't powder coated any . It's great pig medicine. That's what I used on last 4 pig hunts. I dont think I could ask for anything more .

I thought it looked like the same bullet, but wasn?t sure. I?m ready to see what it?ll do to a moose.

I used the same caliber SRH to take my bull moose several years ago with a 370 gr cast bullet. It was before the powder coating craze came along but mine was a one shot kill with a complete pass through. This bullet is better & has been used on a lot of game. A friend used my gun & bullet on his bison, another friend used my Harton 480 & the 390 gr HP on his bull moose as I sat beside him, both were one shot kills. The alloy is usually 70/30, wheelweights to lead at about 1050-1100 fps.

I used this bullet on a bison and some hogs/deer. LOVE it. Sixshot cast a mean bullet from this mold!!! Punches big holes in critters. Kral, I can?t wait to see the results! Keep me in the loop buddy!

Awesome! I had the privilege of hunting cow moose in Maine a number of years ago and it was a great experience! Sounds like you?ve got a great combination worked out. I ended up taking a 100 yard shot with the first shot.

I think a cow moose with an iron sighted revolver will be a fantastic hunt. I am excited to see the results!

Best of luck!!! It looks like I'm getting my old 480 Ruger Super Redhawk back & I'm stoked. Didn't even get to go moose hunting this year (Our season is long over) so I hope you video this so I can live vicariously through you!

Best of luck. My 480 SRH has turned into one of my favorites. Sounds like the bullet is up to the task as well.
PS-send me the back straps!!!!!! lol

The more I read about the 480, the more I like it. Good luck Kim!
