Here's one you don't hear about every day. Everybody said, "Buy a used Leupold M8-X2, it can handle ANY recoil." So I did. Not 20 rounds thru my 445 Super Mag and the left/right turret just falls off. (Came unscrewed apparently). I'm hoping Leupold will honor their lifetime warranty, but even if they do it won't be in time for my cow elk hunt that starts in two weeks. That leaves me with either a 30-30 Ackley Improved with a 140gr Hornaday monoflex @ 2300fps, or a rifle. To say I'm more than a little disappointed would be a gross understatement. What do you think? Is the 30-30AI enough for say 150yds max on a cow elk?

Yes.
However, call Leupold, discuss and return it NOW!

My grandfather shot several elk with an old winchester 94 and factory 30-30 loads. The monoflex should penetrate and hold together better than what he was using back in the 60s. I think you would be close to matching rifle velocity.

Have had two Leupold handgun scopes fail one 2X and one 4X. Stuff happens, over all I still much prefer the Leupold. They have always taken care of the scopes no problem.

abner--- l have a Weaver Classic handgun scope 2x28 silver.

They'll handle a S&W 460 Magnum!

That is the first M8-2 I have ever heard of failing. I have several. One is probably 30 years old and still kicking. Send it back.

I was a handgun hunter, when handgun wasn't cool.....

I tried calling this morning at a break in work. I was number 57 in line. I left my number, and they did call back, but not at a time I could take the call. My e-mail was also answered. I'm going to just send it in with an explanation of what happened. I'm sure they will be right by me.
