THE FIELD PICTURES OF THE BUCK DID NOT DO IT JUSTICE SO I TOOK ANOTHER PICTURE THIS MORNING AT THE TAXIDERMY SHOP.

EARLIER IN THIS TOPIC THERE WAS DISCUSSION ON WHETHER OR NOT THE SPEER 250gr .452 DEEP CURL/GOLD DOT HP BULLET (DC AND GD's ARE THE SAME BULLET) WAS TOO FRANGIBLE FOR "RUGER" VELOCITIES. I AM LOADING THEM OVER 27grs OF 296 AND THEY FEEL ZIPPY AND I AM GUESSING 1,300fps +, MAYBE EVEN 1,400fps. HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO CHRONO THEM YET. THAT LOAD WORKED GOOD ON A 50 OR SO POUND JAVELINA @ 90-95 YARDS (THRU THE SHOULDERS WITH NO SIGN OF FRAGMENTATION/BULLET BREAKUP). BELOW ARE PICTURES OF THE LUNGS, THE INSIDE ENTRY HOLE, THE INSIDE EXIT HOLE AND THE OUTSIDE EXIT HOLE. AGAIN, NO SIGN OF FRAGMENTATION OR BULLET BREAKUP, BUT NOTE THE HEMORRAGHING ON THE OUTSIDE EXIT. I DID NOT DO FROGS IN HIGH SCHOOL NOR COLLEGE AND AM NOT MUCH OF A NECROPSYist BUT ALL THIS LOOKS GOOD TO ME. HOPE TO DEAD CENTER A GOOD SIZE HOG IN THE SHOULDERS UP AT THE HIGHPOINT BEFORE YEAR'S END. I AM BETTING THAT THE BULLET WILL WORK THEN TOO, EVENTHOUGH THE IMPACT DISTANCE WOULD PROBABLY BE 25-35 YARDS LESS.

BTW, A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

KIM: HE IS 1 OF THE TOP 3 BUCKS EVER FOR ME AND HE IS GOING BETWEEN THE OTHER 2. HARD TO RATE DEER, OTHER THAN BY SCORE, BECAUSE EACH ONE IS DISTINCTIVE, BUT THIS IS ONE WAS VERY SPECIAL.

Fantastic deer Rey. I was one that was worried about driving this bullet too fast. I've been impressed so far with the accuracy but have not used them on game. Was anxiously waiting for your results. Actual "field" tests trumps speculation every time. Thanks for reporting the details on the bullet performance. All fears I had using the DCHP on deer have been alleviated.

Again great buck and congratulations on a fine hunt.

Seems like there is no .452 260gr boolit listed. l got a truck

load of 260gr Speers for a SONG off GunBroken awhile back Never

loaded them in 45 Colt... l have shot bunches of them in BAM

BAM, my 460S&W.

Favourite load is a ''REDUCED'' one found in Speer. 30gr of 2400

gives me app 1600FPS.

The 260 Speers were pulled boolits too... Sorry for Speer to drop

its 260

That's one great deer and the Speer performed great. I killed a small buck (15yds) and a doe (35yds) last year using the 44Spl. 200 grain Gold Dot at approx. 850fsp. Bullet went thru both and I cut the skin and recovered both bullets. Good mushroom and great performance. Again that is one heavy antlered deer. Congrats!

I SHOT THIS NICE SIZED AOUDAD EWE, PROBABLY 100 - 125lbs LW, @ 66 YARDS ON SATURDAY 12/28/19. I WAS USING THE RUGER BISLEY HUNTER IN 45 COLT, SCOPE SET AT 5x, AND 27grs OF 296 UNDER THE SPEER DEEP CURL 250gr HP. THE SHOT IS SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL AND THE TERRAIN IS UNEVEN AND WHAT LOOKS LIKE A PERFECT BROADSIDE SHOT USUALLY IS DISTORTED BY THE ANIMALS FOOTING IN THE UNEVEN TERRAIN. ALSO, TENDENCY IS TO SHOOT HIGH AT THESE SHORTER DOWNHILL RANGES. BULLET HIT HER IN THE SPINE, BEHIND THE SHOULDER, SHE DROPPED IMMEDIATELY, CRAWLED 12 YARDS AND DIED FAST. BULLET WAS JUST UNDER THE SKIN IN THE OFFSIDE (THE POINT OF THE KNIFE BLADE IS POINTING TO WHERE THE SLUG IS). MOST OF THE BLOOD, AND THERE WAS A LOT OF IT, WAS FROM THE ENTRY HOLE, WITH A LITTLE FROM THE MOUTH AND/OR NOSTRILS.

THIS IS WHERE SHE FELL, AND ALL THIS BLOOD CAME OUT OF THE ENTRY HOLE. I AM "THINKING" THAT THE BULLET BLEW BONE SHRAPNEL DOWN INTO THE LUNGS CAUSING MASSIVE HEMMORAGHING.

PHOTOS OF THE RECOVERED BULLET, RECOVERED JUST UNDER THE SKIN, RETAINED WEIGHT 166grs. PRETTY GOOD TEST FOR THE BULLET, SHORTER RANGE (66 YARDS IN A STRAIGHT LINE, BUT MAYBE ONLY 60 YARDS OF GRAVITY) AND WENT THRU THE SPINE. WHEN I CUT THE BULLET OUT I FELT AROUND FOR SHRAPNEL AND ALL I DUG OUT WERE PIECES OF BONE. NOTHING HERE THAT WILL KEEP ME FROM USING THESE BULLETS IN THE HUNTER FOR DEER, AOUDAD EWES, JAVELINA AND HOGS.

Bisley Hunter appears to be working out nicely. Let us know how the 300 grainers work out in testing.

Rey, you just cost me some money. My local gun shop got one of those Hunter's in, and I just couldn't resist. Trigger is not bad for out of the box, but I'll probably put in a spring kit later. As far as projects go, do we ever catch up? Congrats on some very fine animals and some excellent shooting. I'm glad the Gold Dot is working out for you, and I look forward to more reports soon!

TODAY (3/29/30) I GOT TO CHRONY THE 250gr SPEER DEEP CURL/GOLD DOT BULLETS OVER 27grs OF 296 AND FED 155M PRIMERS IN STARLINE CASES, 85 degrees, 4 SHOTS AVERAGED 1,330fps IN THE 7.5 INCH BISLEY HUNTER, ABOUT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING.

BEEN WANTING TO COMPLETE MY BULLET TESTING WITH A SHOULDER SHOT ON A 100lb PLUS HOG, NO LUCK YET, BUT IF THE CV OR SOMETHING ELSE DOESN'T GET ME, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME.

Thanks for the update Rey, I was wondering what that load was running. I kept thinking 1400fps or more, but I guess not. Keep us updated if you get that hog.

WHAT IS THE MV OF THAT LOAD? DO YOU GET ANY UNBURNED POWDER?

MV runs around 1250 with no indication of raw powder. Muzzle flash is relatively calm.

HAVE BEEN TRYING TO BLOODY OTHER GUNS MOST OF THIS YEAR SO THE 45 COLT BISLEY HUNTER HAS BEEN ON VACATION. TODAY (10/31/20) I WENT TO MY RANGE ON THE RIO GRANDE TO CHECK SIGHT IN AT 105 YARDS ON A 10 INCH FA 454 (USING OLDER WINCHESTER 300gr AMMO), A 10 INCH CONTENDER IN 45 COLT (USING A 275gr PC'ed SWC HP OVER 19grs OF 2400, CHRONO's 1,375fps) AND THE BISLEY 45 COLT HUNTER. FOR THE HUNTER I HAD MY 250gr GD/DC LOAD OVER 27grs OF 296, PLUS SOME 265gr FUSION BULLETS, SOME SEATED OVER 26.1grs OF 296 AND SOME OVER 27grs OF 296. OFF A REST, AT 25 YARDS, WITH SCOPE SET AT 3x, ALL 3 LOADS WERE ABOUT THE SAME ACCURACY WISE. GOING TO CHRONO THE FUSION 27gr LOAD TOMORROW MORNING, THEN DECIDE WHAT TO USE THIS DEER SEASON. ALL OF THE FUSION LOADS EXTRACTED EASILY, AND WHEN THE BRASS WAS RESIZED ALL FIT EASILY INTO MY SUPER TIGHT JRH BISLEY.

WENT TO MY RANGE ON THE RIO GRANDE THIS MORNING. BRIGHT SUNNY MORNING WITH THE SUN COMING FROM OVER MY LEFT SHOULDER. NORMALLY IN THESE LIGHT CONDITIONS I CANNOT GET ANY MV READINGS, SO I USED SOME LIGHTS ZIP TIED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE SUNSCREENS, SOMETHING THAT WORKS REAL WELL INDOORS, IN DARKER CONDITIONS, BUT SEEMS TO RESULT IN "WEIRD" READINGS WHEN THE SUN AND THE ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS COMPETE FOR BULLET SHADOW TIME.

I WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING IN THE 1,300's AS THE GOLD DOT LOAD CHRONO'ed 1,330fps. I SHOT THE 27gr W-296 LOAD UNDER THE 265gr FUSION 8 TIMES IN THE BISLEY HUNTER AND GOT READINGS "ALL OVER THE PLACE", AS FOLLOWS: 1114, 1539, 1324, 1257, 1069, 1312, 1190 & 1320, ONE OF THOSE "WTF" EXPERIENCES. AM THINKING THE 1324, 1312 & 1320 READINGS ARE VALID AND THE OTHERS "WHO KNOWS". THEN I SHOT AT THE 6.5 INCH ROUND SWINGER AT 105 YARDS, 3 SHOTS WITH THE GOLD DOT LOAD AND ALL HITS, THEN 3 SHOTS WITH THE FUSION LOAD AND ALL HITS.

THE FUSION BULLET SEATS SHALLOWER AND HAS A LONGER NOSE. AFTER YOU SHOOT 1 OR 2 ROUNDS WITH IT THE NOSE ON THE NEXT ROUND's BULLET IS DEFORMED SOME WITH THE LEAD ON THE NOSE SMEARED BACK SOME. SINCE I BELIEVE THE GOLD DOT AND FUSION LOADS ARE ALMOST TWINS IN ACCURACY AND MV, FOR NOW, BECAUSE OF THE WEIRD NOSE DEFORMATION ON THE FUSIONS, I AM GOING TO STICK WITH THE GOLD DOT LOAD.

BTW, WHEN FEDERAL LOADED THE 265gr FUSION BULLETS IN THE 454, THEY WERE RATED AT 1350fps SO I AM GUESSING THEY ARE PRETTY SOFT.

Thanks for the report Rey, I've been following with great interest. I haven't done much work with my Bisley Hunter. I have only developed one load using 335 grain WFN's and HS6 doing a little under 1100 fps. Might try it on a doe, as we have a ton of deer this year.
