have an upcoming cow elk hunt and plan on hunting with my 14" contender in 375 win. i am looking for some starting load data for 250 grn spire point or lehigh bullets. currently shooting 200 grn sierra flat points but WVhitman recommended lehigh bullets so i have some on order, should be here on wednesday. not much load data for new bullets out there i will be shooting RE-7 powder. i appreciate any help.

Dave, I feel your pain. I had a .375 Win. 14" Hunter barrel when the brass was hard to find, Hornady discontinued the 220 FP and loaded ammo was $100.00 per 20 round box when you could find it. So, I sold it and then Starline started making the brass and Lehigh bullets are discovered. It was as accurate as my 7-30 Waters Hunter barrel. I saw Lehigh has load data for .375JDJ, maybe they could help you with the Win.. Just a thought. Good Luck on your Elk hunt and remember to post your journey and pictures.

Have one but never shot that heavy a bullet so no help here.

If you can google 375 win 250 gr loads you may be able to find some resources.I looked and on marlinowners some were asking and they were referred to Barnes and Lyman manuels.They were talking about 29 gr Re7 starting according to these manuels. Look for yourself as this is talking behind someone else although it sounds right. Winchester used to load a 250 in factory ammo.

i found some info for cast bullets but they build pressure different than jacketed bullets. i did find some info for barnes bullets that had info for re-7 - will start there and see what i end up with.

Update- i received my Lehigh 250 grn controlled fracturing bullets today. I researched the barnes info and the info listed the max load of RE-7 at 33.0 grains. I loaded 3 at 31.0 and 3 at 32.0 grains and headed to the range. 25 degrees,6 inches of new snow and a 20-25 mph wind out of the north which gives a full value of wind drift on my range and i posted targets at 100 yards. shooting off the bench with a bipod mounted on the forend of my contender and a rear bag to rest my hand on i fired the first 3 rounds with no signs of excessive pressure. fairly pleasant to shoot as i would compare them to the 200 grainers that I had been shooting. On to the 32.0 grain loads. firing the first one was a noticeable difference and i opened the action and tipped the contender back and the shell casing fell out, i checked for pressure signs on the primer and the case and didnt see anything to alarm me. after firing the other two shots a walk to the 100 yard target was surprising to say the least. The 31.0 grain load printed two rounds in .40" with a flyer making the group about 3". 32.0 grains produced a .842 group. I think maybe a keeper if i can duplicate it. this is about 1/2" less than the best group with the 200 grain sierra fp. more accuracy tests out to 200 when the wind dies down to see if i have a winner. if the accuracy holds I will do some expansion tests and try to get them over a chrono to see what i can do for a ballistic drop chart. based on the listed info they should be running about 1800 fps. Our Iowa late muzzleloader season starts December 23 so i may be able to get some flesh feedback before my elk hunt.

The Chaos bullets don't expand. They shed their skived pedals and go 4 separate ways and the solid base goes straight ahead. I doubt if what you see in test material will match what you see in game, probably better results in game.
I've taken deer with them in .375 JDJ and .375/.284 out to 240 yds, plus this year's bear at 144. None of these animals moved more than 5 yds.

thanks - i am assuming that i have a 200 yard round with the 375. i also have a 308 in a magnum research ssp91. it will shoot 3/8"
groups all day long. i may have to break it out of mothballs just in case.

I tried the 185gr Lehigh bullets in my 14 inch stock TC barrel in .375 Winchester with R-7 and it will shoot .5 - .750 inch 3 shot groups at 100yds. Still can?t believe it out of a stock TC barrel but it keeps doing it. I will have to try the heavier bullets in a few things. I shot a nice doe this year, close shot but it only went 10-15 yards. I also found they shot a just little better out of my .375 Without expanding the case mouth. The tapered base just slides right in.

Dave, if you go to the .308, Lehighs 115 gr. Chaos is unreal. Killed deer out to 400. Massive damage, all dropped.

thanks for the heads up on the 115's. I have been shooting 150's and have been happy with them but havent tried a lighter bullet since I did my load development back in the 90's.
