Curious to know if anyone besides me uses them on their pistols.

I have a Leupold 2x Scout scope mounted on a S&W 629 PC. I like the eye relief on it, (it's a little shorter than your average pistol scope), and the field of view is improved over a pistol scope, in my opinion.

Mine has QD rings so I can take it off and use the irons if I want and the gun/scope combination is pretty accurate from the bench. Have not taken any game with it yet but hope to change that in Ohio's second gun season next weekend.

My son uses them on his pistols. He likes the Bushnell 2x7 on his 7-30 Waters. Tracks well and has held up well .

Thanks junebug.

Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I have two NcStar scout scopes. One on my Single Six Hunter and one on a Contender. My first came on a Ruger Scout rifle and I swapped to the Single Six. I bought another for my Contender 22. They are both 2-7 with illuminated reticles. Great for squirrels.

I tried out the Nikon EER scout scope on a 30-30 contender and wasn't happy with the reduced eye relief at high mag (don't remember the specifics, but think it was ~4-5 inches). I felt like it was effectively a fancy fixed low mag scope. I also don't shoot rifle scopes on my pistol platforms, but there are plenty of accomplished shooters who do. I think it comes down to personal preference.

On my sons Bushnell 2x7 we get full view at almost full arm extension. It is certainly no shorter than my 2.5x8 Weaver on 8x and works well out of a tree stand or off the bench. Never a problem with gun getting close in full recoil with a 7-30 Waters 14 inch. We shoot steel from 100 to 400yds and in between and when he dials up or down and misses he misread the wind, or the BUTT NUT"S loose, the scope tracks very well.
Boys and there toys ,we do like to play!

Has anyone tried the Vortex scout scope? It says 9.45 inch eye relief and reviews say works up tp about 12 inch.

I've never tried the variables in a scout scope but I think I'd like to, especially on a squirrel gun. I actually have a 2.5x on my 617 at the moment and I'm pretty happy with the accuracy even at the lower power. I use it more for practice than anything.

I also use rifle scopes on some of my contender barrels but never anything with much kick. Seems again like the Leupold eye relief is a little longer than most and works pretty well although I never had them mounted on anything bigger than a .223 barrel with brake.

junebug, looks like you have quite a playground there. That's the kind of set up I need...

My son compared the Bushnell and Vortex side by side and to him the Bushnell won out. Better crosshair, clearer glass, but your eyes may be different so compare them yourself before you buy if possible. Get the variable if possible,2x is not enough unless you never shoot past 50 yds. My variables rarely go below 4x.
jcp161 We shot on a 10 in plate at a lasered 219 yds for well over an hr with a 503 striker in 22 mag 3x9 Vortex rifle scope a 14 in Contender 22 lr 2x6 pistol scope and a Chipmunk pistol in 22 lr.2x pistol scope. The target looks farther away thru the 2x than with the naked eye. Giggles and groans were heard, but it teaches you to give the wind its due like nothing else will, and its just a pure fun way to take a break from the big boomers.

JUNEBUG: YEP, YES AND I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN RE THE 2X's

"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

Nothing better than an afternoon shooting rimfires. Miss the days when the kids would still humor me and go to the range...
