Last year I picked up a used 15 inch SSK Encore barrel in 6.5X55, and put it on the back burner till deer season was over. Now it's time to start load development and I could use a little help. I have Contenders in 6.5 JDJ, and 6.5X30 JDJ that push 120gr bullets about 2400 fps, and I was looking for the Swede to push 125gr Partitions, 130gr Accubonds, and 140gr Ballistic Tips to 2500 fps or more. Most load data in the manuals seems a little weak out of respect for the older rifles out in circulation, so is it possible to achieve the velocities I'm looking for out of the 15 inch barrel? I have 130gr Accubonds and 140gr Ballistic Tips on order now, and should be in next week. Any and all suggestions for my new project are appreciated.

H-4350 and load it up, and watching for pressure signs and case stretch. Can't give powder amounts as I have not used the Swede a lot. Just be wise, and work your way up. I have a Swede rifle, but I have only loaded for the 123 grain, and I don't have my load data handy. I use H-4350 for both the 6.5 Creed and the 6.5-284, the capacity of the Swede is in between those two.

My wife's Swede likes a 140 gr Hornady s p or Remington s p bullet and I M R 4350 powder at a bit over 2500 from a 21 in rifle barrel. I could load a bit warmer as I seat the bullets out to just work through the mag, but there is no need .She gets two holes in everything she shoots. When I hear her shoot I just wait a 1/2 hr and go pick up her deer. With 120 to 125 should have no trouble getting 2500 especially if you can seat long. The 6.5 kills very well at that speed for us. The swede is a grail barrel I want for my Encore so if you decide its not for you let me know, please.

IMR 4350/Hornady 129's. I have a 6.5 X 55, 15" MGM w/ brake and 2500 isn't likley, nor really needed.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.
