Think my front sight on my SBH is getting a little bit on the fuzzy side. Lol. Want to try a red dot optic for hunting with a weigand no drill mount. Having trouble deciding between either a Ultradot or the Burris FF3. Both seem good and I like the looks of the Burris better, but want function above looks. I've used scopes in the past and didn't like them mainly because of critical eye relief. I'd appreciate any input on my 2 choices.

Oh, forgot to add I wear no line trifocals too. I've heard that some people see a cluster rather than a dot. I didn't really have a issue with a Sig Romeo on my AR

I have used a Burris FastFire II for years on my Encore 44. Did some research on the new AT3Tactical ARO Micro Red Dot and decided to buy one. Priced right at less than $125. Much less than the 2 scopes you mention. I really like it. I have had a tube type red dot from AT3Tactical on another gun for several years with no issues so that is another reason for my purchase.

Running a Fast fire 3 on my 610 and had another on G40 no issues.
Ultradot makes a good tube type ran one on a 44 for a while the only Trijicon I have is on a 357 works good but wish I could dim it down early and late.

I HAVE BOTH BUT HAVE NOT USED THEM ENUFF TO COMMENT ON WHICH MAY BE BETTER BUT AM LEANING TOWARDS MY GEN 2 2 MOA ULTRADOT. FOR THE FFIII YOU CAN USE A SMALLER MOUNT, FOR A TUBE SIGHT YOU MAY NEED A BIGGER MOUNT.

I am running a vortex venonom reflex style reddot on a 357 gp100 with a small wigands no drill mount that screws into the rear sight adjustment screw. Seems to work well. Juat make sure it stays tight. For a larger sight i would use the longer mount that either clamps the barrel or sl i.p.o ds in the front sight slot.

My FF3 broke. My Ultradot is still ticking.

I'm going to use the weigand mount that uses 2 attachment points. It's longer and will accommodate either sight or a scope if I ever wanted to. Is the field of view for the ultradot acceptable for hunting? Most likely be used from a tree stand and a pop-up blind.

Leupold delta point is good

i have both,but currently run a burris ff3 on my ruger 4.2" 44 mag. really like it and can really run the dot low for first and last light without blooming out the target.

Ultradot - toughest sight I have ever abused.

Ultradot X 2. Held up on my .500 Smith and .475L FA for a few years. Abuse proof!

I have a Vortex Venom on an M&P and a Leupold Delta Point on my G40. I like the Delta Point better. The Delta Point is instant on when you move the gun, and goes off when the gun is still. Both have an acceptable reticle and brightness adjustment.

I have a few Ultradot Match sights and have used them on my DW Supermag and PC 629 with no problems. I also have a FFIII on my Glock 40.

Both sights work well with no problems on any of the guns but I seem to get better accuracy at distance from the Ultradot. Could be me or just the platform but that has been my experience.

I know you don't want a scope due to eye relief but I'd suggest trying a 2x scout scope if you have one handy. Eye relief is better than the pistol scopes and mine has proven to be very accurate on the .44.

I ran a ff3 on a 5" 1911 .460 Rowland for awhile. Had to send it back, because it started coming apart. They sent a new one, no questions asked. But I never used the new one, it went to my son in a trade. But Im sure that failure was a fluke. It was a very handy sight. I would probably get another one, if the need arises.

I have an UltraDot MatchDot on my SBHBH that has seen thousands of rounds without issue.
There is also a Leupold DeltaPoint on my Redhawk that has seen a goodly number of rounds and has held up well.

As far as the micro red dots go, I like the Deltapoint due to the larger window and clearer lens than say the Trijicon. That said my 500JRH wears a Holosun 507C-GR (green dot) which has been reliable so far (<100 rounds). The feature set of the Holosun is going to be pretty hard to beat if the sight holds up.
- Same mounting pattern as a Trijicon RMR
- Manual (button) or automatic brightness adjustment
- Shake awake
- Multiple reticle options
- Solar + battery power
- Something like 50,000 hours battery life

I am also really liking the green reticle over the red. Even against a green background my eyes tend to pick up the green faster.

I have an old Millet SP1 red dot on my SRH 480 that has been flawless. Passed up on a used one on eBay for cheap, now looking at alternatives for a red dot for my RHH 44. I'm leaning towards the Ultra Dot, but now trying to decide between the 1" and 30mm tubes. The Millet is a 1" tube and fine for finding the dot and seeing the target.

Can anyone identify the pro/con of 30mm and 1" tubes? Inquiring minds want to know.

I?ve never had an Ultradot, but if I were to, I think I?d go with the 30mm tube. More light gathering is a good thing if you?re hunting with it. I can?t see a downside, any scope is bulky and the difference in weight can?t be much.

I have both the 1binch and the 30 mm. The 1 inch is on my 357 mag blackhawk and the 30 mm is on my 44 mag redhawk. I like them both.

I use a 30MM ultradot on my 475L BFR for at least five years now and never had a problem. I have to believe they are recoil proof. I have also used them on 44 mag and 45 colt and have shot a lot of 300 gr loads thru each. I also use Vortex Venom and JP enterprise red dots on 44 mags, 45 colt and 454 Casull without a failure. I like the small ones because of the compactness but, I have to say I generally shoot the round tube Ultradots better.

I have a lone 1" UltraDot that came on my first 480 SRH 7.5" that I bought used. I also have a few 30mm UltraDot's as well as 30mm MatchDot II's. You can see a lot more through the 30mm tube, and they are brighter.
The 30mm UltraDot has only the 4 MOA Dot size to work with, which is not a bad thing.
The 30mm MatchDot II's have a choice between 2 MOA and 4 MOA Dots, as well as other larger Dot sizes, and reticle choices that I never use.
In low light set on the lower power settings the 2 MOA Dot Blooms a little less than the 4 MOA Dot size. I have one stand in a deep wooded valley that gets dark way early during deer season. I will normally have the Power setting on 1 before time to head to the house. Using that stand at closing time the 2 MOA Dot Size is just a little nicer.
The 30mm MatchDot II is my preferred choice in Red Dots IF I have room between the rings to mount it. I have a Weigand Base on my current 9.5" 480 SRH, so I have plenty of room between the rings. Using 30mm Ruger Rings you do not have enough room to mount a MatchDot II and will need to stay with an UltraDot.
The MatchDot II has another feature some may find handy. It has a Finger Turn Elevation Knob. You can easily Dial Elevation in the field. This could be handy if you hunt a location where shots are normally close, but you could have a 150 yard shot if the Stars Line up. You can have the sight zeroed at say 75 yards. You then set the knob back to ZERO. If you have a deer come out at say 150 yards and you have predetermined at the Range that Dialing in 6 Clicks puts you Dead On at 150 yards. You would simply Dial Up to 6 and hold dead on. The Elevation Knob could be a selling point depending on where you hunt, and how much time you spend working with your equipment at the Range.
