Three years ago using a friends 44 Mag S&W and took this prairie dog right at 125 yards. It took less than a cylinder full, but I had been working on other pd's before that and had been missing.
Last week while doing drop confirmation for three different 6.5 specialty pistols (6.5x47L, 6.5 Creed, and 6.5-284) we were in a dog town. This was intentional!!!
After we were done picking up steel, there was a big dog standing out there, and I said I was going to go after him with my beater Glock 23 (40 S&W). I walked around his truck and stood just to the side of Dan's window. I wasn't leaning against his truck, as it was a diesel and it was running. First shot was high. Now I had a better idea of where to put the sights. On the second shot we both saw and heard the "meat report!" It was an epic meat report. I told Dan to stay put, and I began the walk toward the dog. I told Dan to range me when I got to the pd. When I got there he was on his back doing the dead cockroach pose. Then I realized, I had forgot my phone. I wait for Dan to range me, and start heading back. As I get closer to him, I ask him, "How far?" He said, "32 yards." I knew it was further than that...I left my phone in the vehicle, so we never got a picture. But, I have a witness. I took this picture this past weekend, so you can see what this ugly handgun looks like. It was my day to look good...87 yards standing offhand on the second shot!
