Well guys, at 67 my hearing is suffering a little. Though I like to hunt unencumbered with lots of technology I think it's time to investigate some ear protection. I'm interested in anyone's opinion on the electronic kind that allows you to hear normal conversation but deadens the sound of the shot; Walker's, for example.

I have been using the Walker's Razor Slim Patriot Electronic Earmuffs (NRR 23dB)- for several years. They are compact, light and you can plug your phone into to them if you want to listen to weather or podcasts while hunting. I'm 67 and have shot competition for 45 years and I range heavy equipment for 20 years. Don't hear too well.
I use them so I can wear my hearing aids with the ear muffs. I have used them since they came out. I shot very loud pistols and they work good. At the range, I sometimes put in ear plugs and wear the muffs if I'm not trying to hear the sounds of nature around me.

I bought a set of MSA Sordins early last year.
I really should not have held out so long. They are absolutely fantastic.

Spring for the gel cups for hours and hours of wearing comfort.

I use a set of standard Peltor Tactical. I have been wearing them every week for several years now and they only need the occasional new set of batteries. Pretty comfortable and they keep your ears warm in the winter. Good NRR.

I've been using Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic earmuffs for a couple of years now. It amplifies the sound up to the gun shot, and helps keep my ears warm, to boot! Also, they are very reasonably priced.

I've tried a lot of different electronic muffs, and most perform pretty well. Walker's are the most popular and can usually be found on sale. Howard Leights work great as well. My favorite are Pro Ears...they are the most comfortable, but also the most expensive.

Work well at keeping the blast down to acceptable levels.
Work well to locate where sounds are coming from.

I have a set of Walkers, they are ok. The ones I have do not amplify sounds above the normal levels, and do not seem to be as good as the Impact Sport muffs at locating sound directions.
I have had several different sets of Peltor's over the years, most have had terrible battery life. Note: I have not bought new ones lately, they may be better now days.

I couldn't agree more. The Sordins are awesome. My only complaint would be wearing a hat with them on, is problematic. My solution is a boonie hat with the brim cutout on the sides.

walker razors - for the money you cant go wrong- if you arent on a budget get the high dollar muffs that you can hear directional with and has more wind noise cancellation
