Last week I posted a picture of my BFR revolver with a 100 yard target. I tried to reproduce that same group but I could not. The best I could do was about a 3 and a 1/2 inch group. When practicing at 100 yards how do our members shoot? Do you shoot off the bench or do you shoot using shooting sticks? Just trying to practice under real hunting conditions.

I sight in at the range off my back pack that I use in the field filled with a couple firm pillows. That way it shoots the same in the field as at the range. Be sure and put a thick piece of leather (I use elephant) under the cylinder gap/end of barrel at the range. Otherwise your backpack will look like confetti.
You can get by with not doing this in the field if you only shoot a time or two. At the end of each session at the range I shoot at a 10" rock offhand at 110 yds. I've hit it 95% of the time with all my revolvers. Drives the young yahoo rifle guys crazy. If I'm looking at high volume field work I carry the leather in the pack.
luckily, off hand shooting hits the same as off my pack, and even better my revolvers hit the same on my Bog Pod out to 150.
Accuracy of revolvers is a whole other story. My FA .454 is the best, 1 1/2-2" at 100. My 10" Taurus .500 Raging Bull does about 2" with several bullets. Others are from 3-6" depending on bullets used. Most of my revolvers are very picky about what they shoot the best. Once I find the right bullet I stick with it.
All my revolvers are factory originals with no custom work done on them. If I want to shoot long range, that's a job for my XPs.

I shoot off of a bench, I shoot prone, and I shoot off of a PSR top with revolvers.
Two of my revolvers are sub MOA at 100 yards and sometimes further. They are not factory revolvers. They have scopes.
I have been able to shoot sub-moa at 100 yards off of the bench and off of Bog-Gear with 5 different revolvers (Three 357 Mag's, 41 Mag, and a 44 mag)-Two of them are mine, and the other three are not.
I can't do this all of the time, especially beyond 100 yards.
Plus, I don't shoot for groups at 100 yards once my load is developed.

When first sighting in at the bench I use an MTM pistol rest. Usually thereafter I shoot from my Bog Pod or sticks, both bi-pod and tri-pod. These are what I use mostly when hunting.

With my scoped Encore and Contender barrels I usually get 1.5 to 2.5" groups at 100 yards. They are no doubt more accurate, just not with me pulling the trigger.

My centerfire revolvers have red dots on them and I haven't shot them past 75 yards on the bench. My 6" Security Six 357 and my 5" Super Redhawk 44 with both shoot ne big hole at 50 yards.

When tree stand hunting I have a piece one inch nylon about 4' long. It has loops every 6 inches that my hand will fit through.
I secure the top loop with my safety belt strap. Putting my left hand through one of the loops and pulling it tight gives a fairly stable hold.

Once I've determined that my handgun can shoot well enough off of the bench, I never shoot it off the bench again when I'm preparing to hunt. I only use the bench for load development, accuracy testing, and gun familiarization. After that, it's vital zone sized targets shot from any position I might encounter in the field. It's good to get your hear racing for a some shots as well.
