All of the videos I have seen on 10mm bullet expansion are shot from seven yards or less but I wanted to try something closer to a hunting situation so I shot these from 25 yards, nothing scientific just milk jugs full of water but it gives me some idea of what the bullet is doing at further distances. All were shot from a 6" Kimber Target, all are 180gr HP's over 7.3gr's of CFE Pistol. I have no idea who makes this bullet for Everglades ammo. I found all four in the fourth gallon of water. I gotta get a chronograph.

Their retained weight
Hornady XTP 175.4gr's
Federal HST 178.8gr's
Speer GD 179.1
Everglades 163.3

I have used the 180XTP on deer with great results.I can tell you that at a bit over 1300fps it expands at 71 yards. That is the farthest kill I have with it.

From doe at 71 yards:

Great thread! And based on what I've seen on YouTube, your testing criteria is better than most. Much more realistic distance than what is usually used.

That's some impressive expansion on the bullets and good weight retention, other than the one that broke into pieces. Hope you get a chance to test them all during hunting season.

Thanks for posting this.

John

Thanks for sharing. I am a firm believer in testing at distances you will actually be using.

It pretty much acts like a mid range 41 magnum.
I have killed deer with the same bullets at 40 S&W velocities.
Knowing your limitations is key. His bullet test reinforces what I have seen from these loads. That is part of knowing your limitations.

Do you know the muzzle velocities?

Based on total trigger pull weight, my trigger finger has lifted well over 200 tons....

I'm guessing the Everglades bullet is designed to break up like that?

Been searching around on the internet and I believe they are made by a company called ZERO Bullets, cant find any info on if they are supposed to be frangible or not.

I think they are made by Zero, and I think they are intended for 40 S&W velocities.

I will be doing a lot of 10mm testing in the next month. Nearly completed another custom in 10mm. I will be glad to post results.

Think you could try some other weights? I'd be interested to see how some 155s and 200s perform.

I already have some 155s to test. Which 200 would you like to see tested?

Got any 200 grain XTPs? If not, don't worry about it.
