alright, i posted about my new purchase striker pistol in 7-08. after a bunch of load work on bullets i could find on the shelf around here. i have settled on a berger 140grn vld hunting bullet 43.5 grains of Varget in a hornady case and a gold match 210 primer. i have noticed that the striker wants to push the first cold bore shot from .3-.5 inches high of the group and then they settle in under an inch. i have torqued the action bolts repeatedly to different specs. opened up the free float on the stock when it would touch when the bipod was torqued down, adjusted my grip tension on the stock.
seems the stock/action may need to be glass bedded even though it has pillars. Any suggestions.

yes plastic- fairly soft like most of the early stocks. seems to have a coating of plastic stock material over the pillars. it is probably not that big of a deal, bit one out of the group bothers me and i think it should be remedied.

The Cold Bore Shot being off a little is very common.
In LE Sniper Class they told us to make a note in the Log Book for Cold Bore Shot correction.
You will either need to fire a fouling shot, OR just worry about the First Shot.
My suggestion would be to fire a fouling shot before hunting, or just not clean it the last Range Session before hunting with it if you are planning on making long shots.

I'm similar to Bob. Beginning of each year I clean all barrels really good. After that I never put anything in the barrels other than a dry patch. Cleaning solutions always make my guns shoot off for a few shots.
My most recent example of this is the Big Boy post. I ended up making 16 one shot kills with my .375/.284 from 175 to 333 yards. Always hit where I aimed. Only thing I did was a dry patch every 5 shots.

bob,
this is a fouled bore and cold barrel. not a clean cold bore shot. that is why I am want to fix it. 1/2" at 100 yards is probably no big deal however it makes the overall groups open up and I am hoping to correct it.

Thanks
Dave

Factory Recommended torque: Centerfire wood and plastic stocks 30-35-inch lbs.; Tang must be free floated for best accuracy,

I got these figures from the factory back when they made Strikers.

FYI-You are not the first person to have trouble with the savage synthetic Striker stock.

Since getting some suggestions i have cleaned up some plastic from the pillars, checked the free float on the tang. made adjustments where needed re-tourqed the action bolts and headed to the range to confirm drops to 300 yards on my old police range. Shooting off a bipod with a small bag under the grip off the ground prone, I shot the cold bore shot and it was dead center up and down but right an inch. after having it off the stock i didn't think it would be that close. made some adjustments and sighted it 2.25" high at 100 for a 200 yard zero and moved back to confirm the zero. shot a 1.5" group dead center so the 200 yard zero was confirmed. then moved to 300, three shots in 3.5 inches. two were in an inch and the wind got me on the 3rd shot.
Had an old burlap covered antelope decoy that was pretty busted up so it became a 2d target. sent 3 down range as fast as i could work the bolt and get on target and came away with a 3.5" group. very acceptable. Stelok program has me at 8.5" of drop at 300 yards however real world drop at 300 yards was 6.5". I am assuming the difference is because of the VLD bullet. anyway as far as the setup goes it is ready for antelope.
Thank you all for the suggestions
