Back in December, we were made aware that Hornady was creating a line of handgun ammunition called Handgun Hunter. They were offering a load in several common handgun hunting calibers, and oddly 9mm and 40 S&W, using new lead-free MonoFlex bullets. After over half a year of no news, I decided to email them about it, and here's the response I got:

"Chance,

Thank you for your email and your interest in our product. Unfortunately, the Handgun Hunter line production was delayed because of the big jump in demand in the industry since the middle of March. We are going to start focusing on production here in the next month and they should be out in retailers around Late August/Early September.

Thank you!

Hornady/SnapSafe Sales Team"

Seems like it's coming. I'd love to try it out their 460 S&W load this season.

Awesome! That's great news. I watched Pigman and friends shoot a bunch of boar with this bullet in calibers from 44 Mag to 460 S&W...performance as expected was pretty impressive.

Hopefully they'll start offering the bullets as components in the near future, as well.

MidwayUSA has 460 S&W Handgun Hunter in stock:
Hornady Handgun Hunter Ammunition 460 S&W Magnum 200 Grain MonoFlex Lead-Free Box of 20.

They're limiting it to 2 boxes per customer. No word yet on the other calibers, but I imagine they're coming soon.

LOOKS LIKE A BETTER GAME BULLET THAN THE ORIGINAL HORNADY 200gr 460 BULLET.

I emailed Hornady a while back and they indicated they would offer the HH bullets as components once they caught up on production of loaded ammo.

Thanks for the status update, I have been curious as well

I planned to shoot my 629 Classic this morning after I made a trip to a gun shop that I usually go to for my reloading supplies. They had the new .44 mag. Handgun Hunter ammo in stock so I picked up a box. The ammo shot flatter than my 240 grain load and recoil was notably less. I'm not the best shot but I was happy with the groups I got at 50 yards.

I cant imagine a bullet in a 10 mm that is so fragile that it will not handle a deer. i am not a 10 mm shooter but i do shoot a 40 sw and would not hesitate with any reasonable factory loading. the 40 was my duty weapon for 20 years and i shot at least 50 car hit deer from point blank to 75 yards with it and if hit in the goodies they were done with one. most that i could check were pass thru's when i stayed off the shoulder. give them a try on test media and let us know.

Will do but probably Feb as my range is in the middle of my hunting, more from convenience but i do water jugs and wet pack newspaper. Jugs show expansion and paper shows penetration- prefer 7 inch minimum penetration which translates to full penetration on our smaller deer if no big joints hit . 10mm hunt loads this year is underwood 180 JSP factory

I just got 2 boxes of the 44 from Midway yesterday. Might of been their last 2 as they show out of stock again.

Will shoot them in my 5" Super Redhawk and my 12" Encore today or tomorrow and will post results.

My understanding of the 10mm bullet is that it is going to equate to a 165gr cup and core bullet which kills the fire out of deer. I intentionally go hunting with a G23 some days and never had an issue killing deer.

New 44 ammo shot very good in my guns. The 12" Encore with a 2x Nikon shot about .7" at 25 yards and just over an inch at 50. All 3 shot groups. On the chronograph 3 shots went at 1585, 1591, and 1590.

Out of the 5" SRH I got a 3 shot 25 yard group of 1.25" and at 50 yards 3 shots went into just under 2"

I plan on trying out next weekend On deer here in IL.

I was prepping some cases to get ready for more load development and testing and noticed the NEW Hornady cases are small primer cases. Everything else I have accumulated has large primer pockets. I had not seen this before so I thought I would throw it out for general consumption for the reloaders amongst us. Probably not a big deal but of course they need to be segregated.

[Linked Image from hosting.photobucket.com] Bought some of the 460 ammo with 200gr bullet as I would like to see how this bullet performs on whitetail. This is the PC 460 I recently bought...
