Purchased a CVA Scout .243 pistol, looking for scope or red dot for deer hunts under 200 yards. Looking at the Ultradot Matchdot II and the Swift 2x20 or Swift 2-6x32. Or other recommendations for a reliable options would be appreciated. This is my first hunting handgun and I would like to keep the optic under $350.00.
Thanks

I like my Weavers. They are all 2.5 x 8.

I DO NOT CARE FOR A FIXED 2X AT DISTANCES MUCH OVER 50 YARDS. I HAVE NO HUNTING EXPERIENCE WITH RED DOTS AT OVER 50 YARDS. A VARIABLE WITH UP TO AT LEAST 6X IS WHAT I PREFER.
"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

I think you'll find the red dot or 2x limited on that platform. You can reach out there a little further than what those optics are capable of.
I have a swift 2-6 and it is a good scope. Mentioned above is the Weaver 2-8, it's a good optic; if you can find one.

I'm with 45MAN on this one. I know there are people on this forum that effectively use a red dot or low magnification for shots over 100 yards, but I would have difficulty. A 2-6X, or 2.5-8X or something in that range would suit you better, IMO. In your price range you should be able to find a quality scope such as Weaver, Burris, Bushnell(Trophy/Elite), Nikon, or Leupold. I'll think you'll appreciate the higher magnification on this platform and caliber combination.

I use variable power Nikon Force XR's on everything that I shoot beyond 50 yards or so. They've recently been discontinued, but you can still find them occasionally on Ebay and Gunbroker, usually still under $300. Nikon 8468 Force XR 2.5-8x28 EER Matte BDC Pistol Scope - Matte Black

.45 MAN X4. Red dots are 50-75 yd. scopes. A .243 handgun is a 300+ yd. gun. 2-8X scopes are good. 3-12X Burris is better.

CoHunter the 2-7 Burris is what I was getting ready to suggest. I have a few both old USA made as well as new ones. The new model ones are much brighter, and more compact. You will like it. I would use at least three rings. I also suggest adding a scope tube mounted Bubble Level. Keeping it vertical will help with longer range accuracy. I about forgot, get a different scope base that will allow more rings to be installed. I believe EGW is the maker of the scope base I have on my 357 Maximum Scout.

I have 2 or 3 2-7 burris scopes. They are older usa, but think they are excellent and user friendly on the single shots. They have 21? wide fov@100 when set at 2x. As far as i know, that is the widest available. The 2x burris and leupold as well. I have a nikon that has a very narrow fov. .....otherwise ok. It is much easier to pick up your target with a wide fov.
The eye relief shortens as you turn up a burris x. No biggie to me, as i adjust my position accordingly. Learn to use what you have.

Let us know how it works for you, once you get everything set-up and get some range time in.

The Burris 2x7 should work well for you. I have several and overall are good for pistol scopes.

You won't be sorry on your selection with the Burris. Great scope.
Let us know what you think once you shoot it.
