I've always said if you live and hunt long enough you can accomplish some pretty cool stuff. Right now I'm in the middle of deer season-crop damage permits. This gives me the chance to use/test many of my handguns. So far, I've used 6mmAI, .250 Sav. AI, .338 Mag. JDJ, .416 Taylor, .500 S&W Raging Bull, 6.5/.284 XP & Encore.
The grass is pretty high around the cornfields and a few deer
have gotten away. I don't like to waste meat, so I rethought my gun choice.
I switched to my .375/.284 XP. I've taken a 5000# hippo, Alaska moose, Shiras moose, and eland, all with one shot. Figured it would work OK on deer. I was right. I've taken 27 with it. Exactly 2 ran a few yards. The rest dropped. The
most memorable is this one.

142 yards, going to the corn. 260 gr. Nosler BT. Did not move. 260 gr. ABs work just as well.
Cleaned her in 6 1/2 minutes, my usual time. Gave the meat to older folks that can't hunt or needy people. So far, 45 deer this summer have put a smile on a few faces.
What a day, what a year, what a life!

Doc you are tearing it up!
I used to shoot depredation deer. It was a hard thankless job.
I passed it on to my brother in law. I did learn a lot from it.I never kept up with the numbers. I had to shoot beans one time in an area where the influx of transient deer exceeded 1000 deer per square mile. It was rough. Good job.

I was a handgun hunter, when handgun wasn't cool.....

Outstanding! The .375/284 is one gun I would like to have and shoot. My .376 Steyr keeps me pretty busy loading and nursing a sore wrist when I get a little out of hand with my shooting and can't quit. That is a great accomplishment and you are doing a lot of people favors by saving crops and feeding others not so fortunate. You are a hero!
If you ever decide to retire that .375 XP, let me know. HAH

What the hell can I say that has`ent already been said about Dr. Larry Rogers... On second thought one of my good memories was a 70yd shot on a blackbuck with him and Eddie watching... Sure makes you focus on your shot.... Here`s to your next 1000
