Thanks for posting James! Just returned from hunting mountain goats on Kodiak Island. Not sure why a guy my age wanted to go on another goat hunt after taking two on previous hunts with single-shot handguns. Mental instability perhaps. I was hunting a two goat area with only one billy permitted. Getting in revolver range of mountain goats in the high alpine is challenging, not to mention the climbing involved. The billy was taken from 61 yards, the nanny at 58 yards. The FA Model 83 in .44 Mag. with Hornady's 240 gr. XTP performed well.
If you're looking for adventure -- and a real challenge, hunting mountain goats with a revolver will do the trick.

getting that close to two goats has to be an adventure in itself.... very few have done what you did... Amazing...

Wow, beautiful trophy's. That terrain must have been really tough to move through let alone sneak up on something.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Very well done Mark, Mountain Goats with a revolver is some rare stuff, 2 of them on the same hunt is like hitting the lottery. Great shooting buddy, looks like those Hornady XTP's worked perfectly for you, outstanding!

Dick, Hope you're recovering and feeling better. Recovered one of the XTPs. Shot the nanny from 58 yards, quartering away. Bullet passed thru and went thru front shoulder lodging in the hide on the opposite side. Recovered bullet weighed 233 grs. and looks almost as if it were shot in gelatin. I'll send you a pic. Take care of yourself and get well soon!

To me, this is just an INCREDIBLE feat of handgun hunting. Taking a Mountain Goat with a revolver would be the stuff of many hunters dreams,so you went and did it TWICE. Impressed doesn't quite cover it. I enjoy reading of all your adventures, and look forward to the next.
