I have about decided to take the .260 Encore with 140gr Partitions for a scoped gun and Charter Target bulldog with 245gr Keith bullets for my open sight gun.

The Indiana opener is this Saturday. Starting out, it will be the 475 family, stand is in dense hardwoods and rolling hills. Encore in 470 Capstick 275 X at 2650fs BFR 475 Linebaugh - 7.5 on the shoulder same bullet at 1700fs.
If I move to my 2nd stand where I can see +400 yards, fields and broken hardwoods Encore in 358 STA 200 TTSX 2800fs Same BFR if something moves in close.
Good & safe hunting. D.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Opening day will have me with my BFR in 500 JRH topped with a Holosun MRDS sight with green reticle.
75 yards in the woods where I hunt would be a long shot. I expect any shots to be in the 10-40 yard range.

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't fired my 475L for months; same with the rest of my handguns. Got busy with work and lost all my shooting time. That said, I don't trust myself with a handgun. Like bow hunting, you need to practice.
Probably just take my 325 WSM and 243 rifles in the field. I'll wear my 44 special on my side though. I don't go anywhere without it.

My hunting is done. Took the .284 Winchester XP100. Tagged a cow elk at 272 yards. First big game taken with the XP100, and couldn't be more excited. If I wasn't completely hooked on the specialty pistols before, I certainly am now.

Season started last weekend for me. I was planning on taking the new to me 25-06 encore out, but after finding that it wasn't even on paper again, I parked it for the winter and grabbed the trusty 14" 30-30 as a primary and the 45-70 as backup. I hunt in a place where 200 yards is a long shot and the 30-30 just gets the job done with reliability every time I pick it up. It always maintains zero and deer typically run 20-30 yard. Early on opening day, I connected with a young 3 pt buck at ~ 140yards. An hour or so later, I looked up from my HHM Forums to see a nice 10pt sneaking past the stand along the edge of the field. I connected at about 90 yards. Our party ended up with 4 deer on the ground by 10:30.

Opening day is next weekend the 21st, and in my grandfathers honor I will be carrying one of his pre-64 Winchester rifles (M94 or M70).....but I will have a a Ruger 45colt across my chest also. His rifles have never drawn blood and he wants to see them in action....he will be 95 this coming january. Sorry, I know this is a handgun site but it is what it is.....lol

Good question.
As it stands now, Contender .44 magnum with 12" Hunter barrel or 629 PC for hunting Ohio. If I use a handgun in PA, I'll try the 10" 30 Herrett barrel.
Rolled my own 180 grain loads for the Contender with the help of the WV Hitman. Very interested to see how they will do on game. Very accurate from the 12" barrel.

I will start out with my 7.62x54R Encore. Scope is a Weaver 2.5-10 Classic Extreme. I have a load worked up with Hornady 160 FTX bullets for this season. I have been wanting to try out my 357 Maximum Contender barrel. I have not used it hunting so far.
The wife will be out with a new one for this year. A Contender Carbine in 30-30AI. I just got it back from the Gunsmith. I had a Four Gill muzzle brake installed. It also has the same Weaver 2.5-10 Classic Extreme rifle scope, and is also loaded with the same Hornady 160 FTX bullets as my 7.62x54R Encore handgun.
My brother will be using his G2 in 30-30AI with Hornady 130 grain soft points. Same as last year except this year he will be hunting from a really nice Tower Stand, instead of the modified ladder stand.
No time to get cameras up this season. I have seen a few nice bucks in the area. Loads of slick heads in the pasture all Fall until the last couple weeks.
Good Luck Everyone

Very interesting diversity of guns. Good luck to all and huge congrats on those that have scored already.
I have been planning out day two. Probably back with the .260 Encore and 1961 Flat top .44 magnum.

My main season (moose), & the only hunting I got to do this year ended Sept 25. I got out with a friend for 4 hunting days. We saw a couple of legal bulls but there were all close to a mile away & chasing cows the wrong direction so no shots fired. I took a rifle on that hunt since I hadn't shot any hunting handguns in WAY TOO LONG! So to answer the question, my next season will be spring bear & I intend to be packing the my 7.5" Ruger Super Redhawk in 480 (with Ultra Dot). Big question right now is bullet choice. Hunting will be a black bear & coastal brown bear here in Alaska. Recomendations???

For first day in W.V. my HSP 7 saum with it's newly mounted Burris 2x-10x Verocity rifle scope for the long shots and my 629 Classic with a 2X Leupold loaded with the new Hornady HANDGUN Hunter ammo for the closer shots. For first day in Pa. the 629 Classic but not sure if I will bother to load it? I have a better chance of seeing a "Unicorn" before a deer here!
