Looking at getting a CVA Scout pistol. Not sure which caliber would be best for deer out to 150 yards. Not very familiar with the Grendel round. Suggestions please.

I vote for the .243 only because I have no experience with the 6.5 grendel!

I know, I know... That's a stupid thing to say. Kinda like voting against someone just because ya didn't like him, but didn't know what his opponent was really all about. Can't think of any recent examples of this, but I'm SURE it has happened somewhere.

Out to 150 yards, the deer is not going to know the difference.
The 243 Win has more case capacity, and you can use heavier bullets with the 6.5

I'll take the 6.5 all day, every day. I have a long-standing hatred of 6mm's for anything but varmints. Maybe irrational, maybe not but failures are hard to forget. Looking to blood my 6.5Grendel AR this year at some point though.

I have the same gun in both 6.5 Creedmoor and 357 mag. I love them both but would go with the creedmoor at 160 yards

Go with a 6.5 Creedmoor in the CVA. You should be able to locate one without much trouble.
Then get a Muzzle Brake installed. Probably a FOUR Gill would be good. The CVA's have Great Triggers and Hi Quality Barrels. The Plastic Grip is garbage however. The Muzzle Brake will make the grip a lot less of an issue. We need someone making a wood grip and sandbag friendly Forend for the Scout.

I have a 357 Mag that I had converted to 357 Maximum, as well as the 50 Muzzle Loader. I have handled several of them at the local gun shop. Every Trigger has been GREAT to date. Never heard of one that did not drive tacks. CVA needs to get them back in production with a good Wood or Rubber Grip and a use-able forend. Then get them out in 7-08 and 308 along with the 6.5 Creedmoor, 243, 300 BO (14"), 357 Maximum, and 44 Magnum. That should pretty much cover all the bases for most of us.

I know of at least one guy on here that has used the 6.5 grendel on deer. You can find pictures on the bragging board. Seems like it worked for him just fine. My brother has one in a ar nice shooter. Only downside is it is not as popular as 6.5 creedmoor so it can be harder to find.243 has been around longer so probably not that hard to find. Of course if you get a Tc encore you can get both calibers and then some ... food for thought.

In all honesty, it's probably easier to find the odder caliber ammo online...the insanity of the doomsday, fear buying has all ammo and components NOWHERE to be found.

I have killed a boat load of deer and antelope with the .243. So you know where my vote is.

I haven't researched it one bit but since they were designed for the AR platform and shorter barrels, I would assume both the Grendel and Creedmoor would do very well in pistols.

No experience with the Grendel, but I have .243 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor specialty pistols.
Enjoy them both on the range and hunting. Depending on your hunting plan, I?d likely give the edge to the 6.5cal for external and terminal performance. Though both will work within their parameters. Good luck.

Didn't know they made them in 6.5 Grendel. Creedmoor yes, but not Grendel. Had to look it up but sure enough, they do.

Given the choice between the two cartridges, I'd probably pick the 6.5 Grendel. With bottleneck cartridges, I'm partial to a hair more bullet mass than the .243" caliber provides. I had a 243 Encore pistol years ago, but I could never get it to shoot that accurately with the 95 and 100 grain bullets I tried through it. The 85 grain Interbond did well, though. I think the 1-10" twist coupled with the lower velocity created by the shorter barrel meant the heavier bullets didn't stabilize well.
