Once upon a time someone here on the site had some clambering issues with their SSK .358 WIN. I can't find the exact thread. I would like to use the thread as a reference because I think I have resolved the my problem. Does anyone remember the thread? Or dig it up? The is difference with Starline 444 brass and Remington 444 brass.

DO NOT THINK IT WAS A 358 WIN, MAYBE A 358 JDJ. ORIGINALLY THE 358 JDJ SSK BARRELS WERE CHAMBERED FOR REMINGTON 444 MARLIN PARENT BRASS. THE STARLINE BRASS WAS A TAD BIGER AT THE BASE AND WHEN USED AS THE PARENT CASE WOULD NOT CHAMBER IN SOME 358 JDJ CHAMBERS. AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I RECALL.

"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

I think "45MAN" remembers it correctly. If I recall the post the brass was the source of the problem.

Yes the brass is the source of the problem. The real issue is where can I find 444 remington brass????

I guess I am somewhat of a bullhead. I was determined to not let this deal beat me. Well I won this tug of war ordeal.

I called up Mike Bellm at Bellm TC shop to discuss why the starline brass supposedly don't fit. After a week with checking my sizing process Mike help guide me in the right direction. Yes the starline brass is a tad bigger near the case head. This where the chamber issue comes into play. What i ended up doing was what Mike told me to do after I got the head space right.

I proceeded to remove the decapping pin and the internals from a lyman .444 die. I full length sized to the shell holder full stroke. According to Mike Bellm the lyman dies size smaller than the rcbs or redding dies. Also he said that the Lee sizing die is too short. Then I full length size the case with a the Lee sizing die after i passed it through the lyman die. Afterwards I was able to chamber the round.

Mike Bellm sent me the email with the full process. Yes it is a 2 die process only if you can't get your hands on some Remington. 444 brass. I will post the email so all can see and read to discuss. All I can say is that the brass works with no issues fellas.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.
