Good morning, first post. Just found this forum and it seems to have some knowledgeable members so thought I would ask my first question.
Just purchased a Desert Eagle in 50AE and have plans to use it for short range whitetail hunting (25-50 yards). The 300 gr Deep Curl bullets are pretty economical to buy (when you can find them). How do they perform on deer size game at the ranges I mentioned? How about the 325 gr version?
Thank you

I have a lot of experience with the 325 gr Speer HP. They will flatten any deer or hog that you hit with them. They are great bullets.

What velocity do you estimate the bullets are hitting at? How do they look when/if they are recovered?

Be sure the DE will fit and function with your loads before you stock up. Nothing to do with the DE. You should do this with any Semi Auto Handgun.

snowwolfe, some of the loads were factory loads, and some were handloads. They were shot out of a Freedom Arms revolver and Encore and Competitor Single shots. Impact velocities were somewhere in the 1,300 - 1,400 fps range in the Freedom. In the single shots, the impact velocities were easily in the 1,600 + fps range. You'll have to PM me your phone number if you would like recovered bullet pictures.
