Thinking about deer hunting. I still don't know which guns are going this year. I know some of my targets though. This deer had been around for a while. The game cam pic was from 2017. The blurry pic through the bushes is the same deer last year. I watched him with binos. He is a beast. Probably close to 300lbs live weight. That spindly rack has turned into a rocking chair. I named him Ned in 2019 and so far he has lived a charmed life.

and this 10pt that will be ready to take this year....

I ended up killing all of my deer last year with my .260 Encore. I rotated around 10 guns but opportunity just picked the .260 to do the work. I have a couple of guns that are snake bit. Never killed anything with them. One of them is my favorite handgun. A 1961 Flattop .44. Alan Harton restored it to perfection. Probably better than new. It needs a kill.

Very nice bucks! That would keep me awake at night if I had those on camera. One thing for certain, on a 300 lb. buck, I would make sure to hunt with enough gun.

I have only killed one buck that weighed 300lbs. Several in the 250-260 range. 300lbs is a big deer.

this was a 315lbs live weight deer. You nearly have to see it to believe how big it was.

It's going to be hard to top that one! It's hard to judge width, but I'll guess 145" total score?

You are right on it. 24" inside spread. 6 or 7 years old.

Best 8pt I have killed. It takes a whole lot of 8pt to crack the 140 mark. I have a couple of really big bucks running around that are both in the mid 160s. A 10 and a 12.

I feel you. Especially during these hot summer days, I tend to really start missing deer and duck hunting more than just about any time of year. The seasons are still several months off, it'll still be some time before the bucks have enough antler definition to begin scouting specific ones, and it's just about too hot to have any fun shooting.
