Well, guys, what have y'all been up to this late summer/early fall? Got any new purchases to show off? Any kills that you haven't been able to post?

I haven't done anything at all to prepare for this fall. It's purely shameful. I may try to blood the 6.5JDJ barrel I got from James.

Well, after it looked like y’all fell off the earth I began to doubt it was round after all. I found the site again quite by accident and couldn’t even remember my password. After I rumbled and stumbled awhile I slid in the back door, or was it the side door ? Anyway, I’m back !

Been quite busy.
Glad the place is back up and running. Though, I only found it by googling Handgun Hunter in a search since the old link was dead. Lucked out. Good to see you guys again.

Went on the annual pig hunt with Racksmasher in October

So great to see this site back up and running. I got over my cold-turkey withdrawal symptoms from the site going down a while ago, but I was checking the link regularly for several months.

I spend a lot more time shooting iron sight revolvers this summer in hopes of taking a deer this fall with iron sights and my RH 45 colt/acp, but unfortunately the component shortage put the kibosh on that. I ended up taking my 454 SRH out and missing a rushed long shot on a small buck actively chasing a doe last weekend. The next morning I had my 30-30 contender in my hand when I had a quick 30yd shot on a big bodied spike buck that connected. I need to get some meat in the freezer before I go back to the iron sights. Work travel through most of October interrupted my pre-season range time which didn't help the situation either.

I have been staying busy with retirement- i found out that everyone thinks that means you have nothing to do. Actually been traveling for my job as a security trainer. casting some bullets when time allows and built an osage selfbow for a buddy of mine. duck hunting filled september and october and now pheasant and archery bow hunting. Working up some 44 special loads for an upcoming flattop purchase and finally got the Rockwell laminate stock for my striker rebarrel to 358 win. i also had been checking on the site regularly but found it by accident.
Is there anyway to notify all the former users by an email with the new link to get the gang back together?

Built some more guns and bought some more guns. I don't remember if I posted the last kills but I'll dig them up.

Just found things up and running now. What a pleasure to see this operational again.

Been selling off contender barrels and taking the FA 83 I’m .454 for walks during deer and the PA bear season. No luck.

Look forward to seeing how everyone lease has fared.

John

I’ve been playing with long range rifles the past few years which is why I’ve been real off and on with this site. I’m swinging back to handguns again now. Screwed up my neck and had surgery but I’ve lost about 50% of the strength in my left arm so I can’t hold up a 10-14lb rifle anymore. I have to shoot a long gun with my left hand under the pistol grip on the stock and my elbow wedged agains my torso. That being said I did manage to take two fall turkeys with my shotgun and filled my doe tag with my 3” GP100. I killed a coyote the other day at 60yds with my iron sighted Super Blackhawk.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Glad the site is back. Thanks.
Been a pretty typical year: 503 groundhogs, 62 deer with handguns, 16" 8 point at 243 yds. with my .300 Whisper & can, 369 rockchucks in ID.
Getting old. Guess I'll have to cut back a little.

Picked up a 15" 308 Encore & a Contender with 375 JDJ & 6.5 JDJ SKS barrels.

Been hanging out on the new HHI sight

Another blast from the past dropping in to see what has been going on. It's been at least 5 or 6 years since I'd popped in but a lot of the names I'm seeing are familiar.

Life stories...I'm older and uglier. Soon to be married for 22yrs...which is amazing considering the whole ugly thing I have going on. But her eyes aren't great so that's in my favor. Oldest kid is trying to pick a college. She's crazy smart which is a blessing and a curse. Everything is easy for her and doors are open in every direction...she's just can't decide which one to pursue. Youngest is in a tech program for machining and loves it. We also bought, built and sold some cars...mainly RWD, V8 Fords...foxbody Mustangs, Fox T-bird, early Rangers. Still have two V8 Rangers, a 1985 387W/C4 and 1986 5.0/T5. Starting on a 1973 TR6 for the wife over the winter.

Hunting stories...since 2015 I've killed almost everything with a high tech stick and string. Even got back into the competition side a little. That was my jam back in the day (1990's)...all I did was shoot competitively. But after about 10yrs I burned out and there were no good local shops. Then in 2014 a great bow shop opened up locally. When I found that out it didn't take but a minute for me to jump back in with both feet. I spend a lot of time there in the winter helping behind the counter, running the range and coaching kids. Our son has turned into quite the archer also. In 2019 the son and I went to WY for antelope (gun). Dad went along, we had an absolutely fantastic time. I've even start flirting with blackpowder over the last couple years as an excuse to spend more time in the woods and extend the season. Took my first flintlock deer on Dec 31, 2020. That had my heart going as much anything!

That's pretty much the highlights. My collection of XP's and T/C's is still intact. Wishing I had picked up some parts for my Competitor before they closed shop. There's been the usual health scare mixed in here and there. A job change that wasn't fun to endure. But we keep marching on. God is good!

Yeah …. Thanks dan. I hunted deer a few days this past November. I could have shot a small 8 a couple different times but passed. Had a nice one or two around that did not show…..when i was there. Thats The most I’ve hunted in a few yrs. The 35rem rimmed G2 contender was ready and 30-30 Ackley on deck.

My kids are having kids now. Grandbabies……nothin like em!!
