Just came back from a gunshow in Pittsburgh, PA. Drove 21/2 hours into crappy weather to encounter some of the highest prices on mechandise I have ever seen. Saw a number of used Contender barrels that were priced at $249. A used Contender stainless frame priced at $279. Is this the price that others have been seeing ? And by the way Gary, I like the format of the new forum !!

Rupe,

Where are you from in PA?

I heard the show was a bust. I was going to go and then got tied up on a project. The guy I talked to said that it was about half the usual size and the computer show was going on at the same time!

$279 for a used frame. There are still some shops here that have NIB ones for less than $240. I never can understand why guys expect more for used stuff than you would pay for NIB??

Stush - I live in NW PA, Crawford County. Moved here when I retired 8 years ago, from the Pittsburgh area. I went to the show today (Sunday) and felt that there was a good crowd and felt that the number of vendors was about the same as in past years. There was a computer show going as well. I wasn't impressed at the prices overall, not just the Contender ware. You're right, there are much better prices to be had elsewhere. I feel sorry for those who go to the show and buy without having done any homework. Are you a PA boy ?

My dad and brother went to the show. I passed just because I was short on walking around money. Does not sound like I missed anything though...usually only go to look for cheap dies in odd calibers and get my "fix" of Penn Bullets. Frame prices are unreal at that place...they think everything Contender related is gold. They did say there was a nice Ruger #1 in .300WM (SS and lam stock) for $595....that sounds like a deal to me....#1's are usually higher than that.

Rupe...I was in Crawford County on Friday near Canadohta Lake (Bloomfield Twp).

Rupe,

I live near Saltsburg, PA. I've been here all my life except for a few years when I was getting my degree up by New Castle.

Just want to add my 2 cents about barrel pricing. It is ridiculous to pay some of the prices for barrels. Auctions like Ebay And Gunbroker really get outrageous, but if we want something then we buy. As far as, Eds TC, I can never contact the guy, either via e-mail or phone.

Dan B - If you were near Canadota Lake, you were probably 10 minutes from my home. If there is a next time shout at me before hand.

Ed is a busy man. He does a lot of gun shows so it will be hit and miss with him. Keep calling, not e-mail, and you will eventually get through. I have been lucky I guess, I've gotten through to him every time. Weekends are not a good time to call Ed.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
