Would something like this be legal?
Could I even get a bbl made to that length and with ability to use chokes?

I want to hunt turkeys with my encore pistol but our state says only shot guns or bows for hunting turkeys.
Ok, no rifled bullets...

I know any shot gun bbl under 18" is considered illegal by the Feds.

It would be a far stretch for being a "pistol", less the actual pistol grip, being that long.....
Hmmmmmm......
Sorry, just pondering out loud on a possible Encore handgun project for turkey huntin.
LOL

Thanks,
Shawn

It could be done, but I don't believe it would be legal. The NFA rules state that the overall length would have to be 26 1'2 " . Under that and it is an NFA weapon and needs the appropriate licensing.

I would love to see some New England state allow handgun hunting for turkey, but I doubt you'll see that happen.

One thought. I know that muzzleloaders don't fall into the same catagory. So it may be possible to have a long barreled smoothbored "pistol" and still be considered legal. The Encore would not be allowed as it can interchange with a centerfire barrel, I do believe.

This is perfectly legal IF you buy a $200 tax stamp from the BATF for the barrel. JD Jones is trying get the BATF to back off of this one for the Encore.

Still must be at least 26" in overall length.......

One thing to keep in mind.......just because it's legal to own, doesn't mean it's legal to hunt turkeys with it.....I'd want to have a letter from the game department specifying that it is legal to hunt with it.....sure would eliminate problems that might come up if a game warden ever questioned you...........

And if you find it can be done be sure its on an Encore PISTOL FRAME not a long gun frame. ATF says its a felony to do so.
