Well......got the SSK 45/70 and 300gr bullets up to almost 1600fps using a healthier charge of AA5744. Accuracy was about 2.5" with a few rounds touching. Also used a tigher crimp and getting a better powder burn. Getting happier!! Also finalized my .375JDJ load...Varget and the classic 270gr Hornady IL works great...almost 2100fps from a 14" barrel. I zeroed it at 150yards and shot this group on the steel gong. Shot #2 opened the group up some...but the wind was pretty gusty and I did not account for that or it may have landed in the group...even though...it's still pretty good.

looks good, glad the 45-70 is dialing in for you

He likes harvesting and eating steel plates...they're very high in Iron! Dan, that looks like the 25yard steel plate in your back yard? As I recall, that plate is almost 5 feet wide. That's not a very good group! Are you sure of your stats? Good group with that 375, now go kill something big with it!

In my 15" off the rack TC 45-70 Encore barrel I'm loading 58.5grs of Varget under a Remington 300gr JHP with a CCI BR-2 primer and getting excellent accuracy....one very big jagged hole at 100 yds. with five rounds.
I tinkered with my 45-70 quite a bit and going heavier on the crimp helped my accuracy considerably also.
After determining the above Varget pet load I built another five pet loads but used CCI 250 Mag primers instead of the BR-2's....accuracy was nowhere as good, with any load, using the 250 Mags as it was with the BR-2's.
The Varget load shoots pretty darn flat out to 150yds. but from 150 to 200 yds the bullet drops about 18".....she seems to really start running out of steam fast in those last 50 yards.
38.5grs of IMR4198 under the 300gr Rem. JHP's also shot well in my barrel.

Dan: How far away is that gong? Looks like a minute-of-kudu group. Is your .375 barrel a factory barrel? I'm full of questions because I have a factory TC 14-inch barrel for my G-2 on the way along with Redding dies and a Bushnell Trophy 2-6 scope. Can't wait to try the .375, and am reading all I can about loads.

Bill...the plate was at 150 yards. The load I'm shooting will do around 1" at 100 yards and I've grouped under 3" at 200 yards. My barrel is a SSK...but I've had great results from factory barrels in about 20 different calibers!

Bill- I think you will like the .375JDJ. I have one of the SSK barrels and it is a hoot. I shoot the Nosler 260grn Accubonds with 47grns of Varget at 1850fps. It is shooting 1.25 groups at 100yds sighted 2" high. It is hitting 4.2" low at 200yds. I'm shooting at wet phone books tied together and the 260 Accubond is destroying them. Mine also likes the Hornady 220grn flat point w/49grns of IMR4895 at 1980fps. I took a 100 lb whitetail with the 220grn load two years back. Through both shoulders and a nice exit hole. Dropped her right there. I can't wait to use the 260's on a hog or whitetail. If you are needing some brass to get started, let me know. I have some used .375JDJ that I have shot several times. It is nickel, formed and primed. Just went to all brass.

Fellas: Thanks for your encouragement. Mike: I have dies, .444 brass and a barrel and scope due here on Tuesday from Midway, and assume case forming will be pretty straightforward, and certainly easier than .30 Herrett. Really look forward to working with the .375. I make jacketed 220-grain softnoses in .379 specifically for .38-55s, but will fiddle with them to see if I can't make a higher-BC deer/antelope softpoint for the .375.
