I know the short tubes are lots of fun, but I've had my eye on this new double rifle since it came out. I've always wanted a double rifle and this is the first affordable one to come along that shows promise.
Of course I'd choose the 45-70. It would be a sweet rig IMO.
Anyone shot one?

ccd:I have heard rumors of a .30-06 getting out, but there's about 1,000 fellas in line for hte .45-70 double, and Remington has been stringing them along for well over a year now promising the gun will eventually be available.

Ordered mine last Oct. in .45-70, gonna take it to Africa to back up my Encore pistol. So far it's a no-show too. Went straight to Remington with my questions and was told that quality control problems forced the re-design of one part of the rifle. They are rather particular about the guns they put their company name on. They'll start shipping them to the dealers when it's right. When I asked in Jan., they said this Fall. Can't wait to shoot it. Before I ordered it though, I made sure it would stand up to the heaviest load Buffalo Bore Ammunition could stuff into it. They had tested this gun when it still bore the EAA name with no problems with over pressure. Apparently the problem isn't in the lock up system, but in the extractors.

I haven't read about the supply issue, that is interesting. I kinda though it would be a great rifle to take on a bear hunt that I am planing on next year.
It is promising that Remington is making improvements before bringing it to market.
Keep us posted if you get your rifle or hear from Remington. When they start to ship, I'd like to go order one.

according to the spartan website it will be available in 30-06 but the 45-70 will be released first

If you go to the Big Bore forum at accuratereloading.com, you'll find a long thread on a .45-70 group buy. Lots of info to consider there.

Hey Keyman, I read this post and was iterested in the 45/70 myself. Until I went on their website and saw the little note at the bottom,do not exceed 28000 cpu, psi. With the ammo this limits you to,I dont think I would take it to Africa. What if you bump into something dangerous. Mike

Mike, B/B told me their .45-70 ammo had tested well in any break open rifle, including the NEF Handi-Rifle. Their 430 gr. load @ 1925, or a 500 gr. FMJ-FN @ 1650 will be more than enough for a large nasty at spitting distance,(which is why I ordered one!). Chamber pressures are kept low the same way British Nitro Express rounds were, large cases. Besides, this gun will also be chambered in .30-06, with pressures in the 50,000 range. Way higher than any .45-70 round loaded by modern man.

Also if its the same rifle, meaning the .45-70 frame is the same as the .30-06, then the barrels are interchangable, then there is less steel surrounding the .45-70 causing it to only withstand lower pressure.
