I've been toying with the idea of selling my scoped SBH for a couple of reasons. One is that i have carpul tunnel and it hurts to shoot anything that recoils harder then my 9mm, for days, and a .44mag is just slightly above a 9mm. Also, I want to get another carry weapon. I don't get much time to go hunting, and the Michigan firearm season is only 2 weeks. I still have my Colt Python to hunt with as well. I love the SBH, but i just can't shoot it. Yall's thoughts? I'm always very recluctant about selling a firearm, and also about spending money, so i just may be talking about it and not go farther than that.

If you like the gun and are torn about getting rid of it try getting it magna-ported. That will knock the recoil down, and if you load it down a bit you should be sitting pretty.

I agree with 7STUUBBERU, I have a friend who shoots cowboy action matches with a 45 Colt. He loads his 45 ammo light, I load mine fairly stout with 335 grain bullets and H110. When I fire his loads there is barely any recoil. You can do the same with your SBH. There are very few guns I have sold that I did not regret selling later.

I sent my 44mag Hunter to magnaport and had quad trapazoidal ports done and even the hot 300gr hardcast loads are like shootin 44 specials. The porting does ALOT for taming recoil. Had 4 rifle ports done to my 338 win mag and it is also very comfortable to shoot now. Give it some thought before you part with something you really like. Been there, done that and doin it again but circumstances at this time warrant it.

You guys that recommended the magna-porting are on the right track. But for even more recoil reduction, consider send it to SSK for one of JD's Arrestor muzzle brake. Included in the cost of that job is you get to determine the overall length of the barrel with the brake installed. It adds about an 1 1/4" to the barrel, or they'll lop off that much then install the brake. Up to you.
