I was out last week looking for charlies. I crossed a large field between the oats and alfalfa. As I neared the middle of the field a charlie stood up about 70 yards away and was staring right at me. I froze in my tracks. He looked at me I looked at him, after about ten minutes he slowly went down and diaappeared. I did not attempt to shoot as the direction of the shot was towards the county road about 6 or 7 hundred yards away. I moved on down the field and set up with a safe backstop. I waited about 20 minutes, but he never came back up. As I was heading towards the truck it started to rain. The wind was blowing at 20 mph and the temp was only 45 *. I was skunked!! Well, today I had about 30 minutes to hunt after work. I knew right where I was going to go. I crossed the field towards the general direction of his hole. The hay is getting up about 12 to 16 inches high and the charlies are very hard to spot.. I close in on the hole and see the dirt mound about 20 yards away. I stand perfectly still for about 20 minutes. I was just about to call it quits as time was running short when I see movement. I slowly ease the Encore up and find a shiny little eye looking back at me. I slowly cock the hammer and start to apply pressure to the trigger. BLAM!!!!

I have eaten charlie when I was younger. My grandmother use to fix the young ones. If I remember she would soak them in milk all night and then pan fry. I have ask my wife if she would cook one if I cleaned it and her exact words were " not in my kitchen!!" The 445 tore him up good on the under side. Left leg and most of the chest is gone.

The barrel is a 12" 44 Mag rechambered by OTT to 445 Super Mag with his shark gill break. That break is impressive. It makes the 445 a real pussycat to shoot. The break does not add much if any weight to make it feel muzzle heavy.
