I've got the leupold R8000 rangefinding binoculars and I love them, you get the quality 8x binoc and a very good rangefinder, the only thing I don't like about them is if your in bright light during the middle of the day the red readout can be kinda hard to see but since most hunting is in low light it has never been a problem. Cabelas has the R8000c with compass on sale for 499.00 which is 300.00 off. I think you would like them because it's one less thing to carry, I use the butler creek bino buddy and the cabelas neoprene cover with mine. Something else to consider with buying the leupolds, I set mine the seat with one of my revolvers while out target shooting and hit a pretty good bump, when this happened the hammer on the revolver hit one of the lenses and broke it, I sent them back to Leupold and told them what happened and that I would pay for the repair since it was my negligence that caused it and about a week later I received a brand new pair no charge. I will never use another optics company again. (besides there made here in Oregon)

I've been using a Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport for about 2 years got it as a gift from my daughters for fathers day.It works great, it's accurate and compact. I use it a lot for Bowhunting as well as Handgun hunting to. Most of my shots are within 30 yds (Bow) and 100 Yds (Handgun)The Bushnell has been on the mark within these ranges and when playing around with it its been on the mark out to greater ranges than that. For the money I don't think you can beat it. Just my Opinion.

I use the Bushnell yardage pro compact 600 which I have had for some 8 years and they work excellent. They have the scan mode which I really like so I can just go from point A to B without taking my finger off the button and just keep ranging different targets. Whatever model you end up with make sure your in the YARDS mode, not METERS like a friend of mine was doing and couldnt figure out why he missed a
nice trophy buck last year.

dd,
What distances do you want to be able to use it to?

I think the scout would be a great buy. It has the things you NEED, and not those you don't. Good magnification, compact, has scan and rain mode which are critical in a rangefinder, and plenty long for the ranges most of us will ever shoot. Nice price too!

I have been using a Bushnell scout for several years...... it's not a bad rangefinder, but I wouldn't buy another one.....expect it to consistently and reliably range to about half the distance Bushnell claims! Mine won't range deer size animals much past 300 yards with any reliability and it is very picky about the "quality" of the target. Since I hunt most in ranch country, I often take range readings on cows while hunting......I have NEVER been able to get a reading on a black cow at *any* distance with the Bushnell.....readings on brown cows are hit and miss....forget about ranging anything as small as a groundhog past 100 yards......conversly, I have used a borrowed Leica 800 and had no problem ranging brown or black cows at long distance and it would easily range deer well past 500 yards when I could hold it steady enough........

The scout is a great rangefinder for bowhunting......

My advice, spend a bit more money and buy a better quality rangefinder.....if you are hunting where you really need a rangefinder, you will eventually want one with more capability than the scout has........
