Last question on this subject for awhile. I promise.
On my 29 I currently have Houge's rubber Monogrip with the open back. I've tride an old set of Pachmeyer Presentation grips I have & don't see any help in the comfort dept. regarding recoil.
Are the Pachmeyer Decelerator grips any better at reducing felt recoil?
I know grip fit in the hand is important, but is there a special design or rubber compound in the Decelerator that really makes a difference in felt recoil?
Thanks, Vance.

I don't know about the grips, but the decelerator recoil pads are definately made from a different material. Much "spongier" than a regular Pachmyer pad.

Here is some food for thought. I have S&W 657 that came with the Hogue rubber grips. No matter what loads I shot in this gun, it bit my hand. That should not be a problem with a 41 mag. I switched to a set of wooden Hogue grips and the problem went away. I know it seems strange to suggest a harder grip material as opposed to a softer one, but this worked for me. Might be worth trying.

Thanks Stush.
I know the Hogue hard rubber grip with the open backstrap gives me less felt recoil than the Pachmeyer Presentations with the rubber on the backstrap. I think fit in the hand is probably the most important factor. If we had a gun shop in my area that had a grip selection I'd like to try some of the wood Hogues. I do know the wood Smityh grips (large target I think)that came with the gun hit my thumb right on the bone just off the web of the hand & are very uncomfortable for me, but thay are much "squarer" there than Hogues. I'm going to be up in Anchorage next weekend & might look for some wood Hogues up there.
MePlat. Yes we have had this discussion befor. Guess I'm a "mental" guy.

If your mod 29 is a round butt you can order the grips they put on the s&w X frame and they will fot. I read that they work wonderfully.

The factory Hogue grips are the best that I have tried. Now the factory grips fit my hand well so that may have a great deal to do with this. With smaller hands fit is more important than what the grips are made of.

Hey Tex!
That is an oldie, & the mod 29 still wears the rubber Hogues!
Haven't played with it since I got the 480 SRH.

I haven't been on the net much in the last year or so (wasn't very disciplined & wasted HUGE amounts of time there)but I do check on you guys occasionaly! Problem is if I post I have to keep checking back....
Maybe I'll ease back in... :-) Miss you guys

Vance,
check out the X-frame rubber grips.
I have been using them for years and they are great, have a covered backstrap and don't pinch. $30 or so on S&W website.

Try Herrets custom grips they make them to a tracing of your particular hand. Their Jordon Troopers work great for me with .44 maggies

I keep a pair of golds gym weight lifting gloves in my range bag, the kind with the fingers cut short. Takes the edge off as far as felt recoil, i'm not thinking about recoil when a critter steps out.
