Just took possesion of a Encore 405 Winchester. Looking for loads using the 300grn flat point. It is the rifle barrel but I got it with the intentions of making a pistol barrel out of it. I was thinging about 16" with a Magnaport break or something similiar.
I think this round will be great for game around here in the woods and some longer shots to 150yds.
Who would be a good smith to send it to for getting it cut and recrowned?
Mike

if you're gonna send it to magnaport for a brake or porting anyway, you might as well have them cut and crown the barrel right there.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

an OTT shark gill brake would surely help tame that beast! very effective brake on the 300mag here.....n thats what "magnum mike" uses on his 405win encore.

Check this out. I bought this barrel from Tim50.

He got it from the guy who had it done. The break makes the 444 very manageable and as you can see in the article it is removeable, I'm real happy with it.

hey, that's me.
Glad you like it. Only reason I traded it to Tim was of the factory throat....or lack of one. Only factory rounds would fir...no cast boolits etc., and I was not gonna spend the extra $ to have it throated. Did you try it w-out the brake?

Jeff

I bought it because of the brake...as they say here in Ga,
