I'm not going to get into all the details, unless someone makes me , but I will never take another weapon to Gander Mountain for gunsmithing. Gander Mountain was one of my favorite stores to shop at until just a few days ago. I'm 47 years old, and I received the worst customer service I've ever received from any place that I've done business with. I hope all of the Gander Mountains are not as bad as the one in Aurora,Colorado. It makes me sad to loose one of my favorite stores, but thank God for the new Bass Pro Shop they just put in!!!

Please Note: Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone who needed gunsmithing should choose another place other than Gander Mountain.

Its always sad to loose a place that you liked to do business with over a sour experience.
I dont blame you as it has happened to me too.
but you seriously can't come in a say all this without telling us what happened!
Do tell...

Thanks,
Shawn

Sad state of affairs.
My one question would be was it a management problem or counterperson problem? If you talked to the management & couldn't get satisfaction, I agree & it's time to move on. If it was an individual sales-person I wouldn't let them run me off from a store I loved. I'd avoid them at all costs & let management know they are a problem so they can keep an eye on them. Just don't expect management to fire them over just your incident. Labor laws won't hardly allow than anymore. Gotta have a documented chain of problems or you are up for a lawsuite.

They ain't hittin on much here in VA either. Most of the sales people are absolutely clueless and it really pisses me off that I had to be escorted to the door when I bought a handgun from them. Never mind the fact that I was carrying concealed when I bought it and that I used my CCW lic. for one form of ID. I don't shop there anymore.

I took my rem 700 300 ultra mag in to have a muzzle break put on it. They told me it would take about three weeks. Two and a half months later they told me to come and pick it up the next day. The next day they called and said they had ruined the barrel and it would be an inch shorter or they would have to send it off and it woud take another two to three months to get it back, and they could not promise me it would be here by elk season. I called and tried to talk to the asst manager to figure something else out. He talked to me like I was trying to get a free ride or something. He made me so mad the way he spoke to me on the phone. I went down to the store the next morning and made them refund my money and told them they could keep the gun. The next day the gunsmith calls me and tells me that the gun is fine and it really was never ruined, they had just sent him the wrong part. I'm suppose to pick the gun up next week. I really don't know if I'll ever trust the gun again. What really chaps my ass is the way the asst manager talked down to me and treated me like I had done something wrong when it was them that had ruined my gun. The gunsmith was always nice and has apologized numerous times. I never received a call from the store manager even though I know he knows what happened. You just can't keep someones property for a half a year, and if you ruin their property you should replace it. That gun only had about a box of shells shot through it and had killed my biggest bull and my first mule deer last year.

I was at the Gander Mt. in Rochester yesterday looking for a pair of Rocky boots that I got there 2 years ago. Sure enough, there is the boot on display I'm looking for on the wall. Sign says "center table". So I go over and start looking for my size. They only had 2 pair of that style in a stack of different style boots. Both not my size. I look for the clerk in that area. No one is around. I finally fina a saleperson in the camping area. He says that he dosn't work that area but will come and look for me. He comes out of the stock room and says there are none out there. Lots of the other style but not the ones I want. He said "maybe" I can have your size transfered in. I said, no thanks I'm not driving the 100 back up here for the boots.

Kind of makes ya wonder.

Welcome to the Henrietta Gander Mountain Tigger--Try going to the firearms counter and get assistance there. You'll stand around looking at 3-4 salespeople meandering around, looking at you and completely ignoring you until you make yourself known, in a voice that everyone in the store can hear. Ive told those guys in there they have no right selling firearms, they should be flippin burgers at Mickey D's. Its unreal in that place. And as for the firearms they sell--I bought a used Springfield ultra compact .45 that would not cycle any ammo at all. Finally took it to a reliable gunsmith locally and he got it to accept any and all loads I fed it. Gander said they would not reimburse me for the charges (gave them a receipt) because the gunsmith at Gander claimed it was inspected and worked fine when I purchased it. After several emails, phone calls and a very unhappy customer complaining inside the store, they finally agreed to give me store credit for the smitty's repair charges. Needless to say I will no longer be purchasing firearms from this store.

The manager from Gander Mountain just called me and is going to replace my gun with a new muzzle brake. He was as nice as he could be on the phone. I just wish that I would never have dealt with their asst. manager, none of the bad feelings would be there. The store manager came across as sincere.

I guess I would think twice about buying any firearm from any of the hunting superstores. I try to buy my stuff from my local privately owned gun dealers. That way if I have a problem they will usually take care of it. Plus you are building a business relationship with another gun lover.

I buy my handguns from the Buffalo Gun Center rather than Gander Mtn...I purchased one gun from Gander and it was defective. The gun had to go back to the factory for a barrel replacement. The fact that the gun was defective was not Gander's fault, the way that the return was handled was. They sent it back to Browning and I was told that I would have it back in about two weeks. When the two weeks was up, I called Gander and they had no info for me...I waited another week and the same answer. Then came week 4, they still had the same answer...Try back in another week. Well, I called Browning...They told me that it was shipped back to Gander Mtn two weeks previous. I called Gander again and asked them again if they had my gun...They said no again...I then told them what Browning had said...Presto, they found my gun...What a miracle.

Stick with the local gun shops if you can, they are more important to gun owners than the megastores.
