I just started loading for the 338JDJ #2. This is my first project that requires fireforming brass. Both formed and fireformed brass seem to shoot equally well with this round. I dont see any real difference in my group size or velocity with either form of brass.

Is there any reason why you would not want to hunt with rounds that are not fireformed?

I do not reload so I can not say for sure but if you are getting the same results on paper, the same groups in the same spots, then I dont see why you could not use it for hunting with confidence in hittig what you aim at.

Thanks,

Just watch your headspace other wise you may get misfires. Of course you need to do this anyway to have a properly formed case after firing.

I've hunted for years with fireform loads for my 309JDJ. Neither the groudhogs nor the deer have protested; or noticed any difference for that matter.

Thanks for the information guys. I was not sure if there was any reason I had not heard of other than the headspace issue. I have fired about 100 rounds so far with no misfires so I think my dies are adjusted correctly.
