I had bought a used Encore bbl made by Bullberry, 7mm-08 with a muzzle break on it so I did not get a chance to shoot it without.
I must say the recoil was pretty mild.

Thanks,
Shawn

I like my 7-08 on my Encore without a break. I have shot some 7-08's with breaks and they reduce the recoil but Damn they are loud. The blast is bad with setting in a tree hunting. I have been shooting mine for about 150 rounds so far and with 120's or 140's it is not bad. It has more of a push than a sharp lift like some. I traded a 308 that was eating my hand up with wood grips for the 7-08 and I think I got the better of the deal. I'm going to get some of the rubber grips and see if that doesn't dampen the recoil even more.

i like my 15" 7-08....n wouldn't want a brake on it at all. i can pretty much shoot it long as i want without ill effect. .......and a muzzle brake would make it unnecessarily more unpleasant for other range folks, and require some electronic muffs for hunting(unless ya stick in ear plugs before shooting).

a brake IS good..... IF the recoil is more than you can stand to get the performance you desire, or you have limitations due to physical handicaps and prevention of future hand damage. the OTT shark gill brake is most excellent on my 300 win mag, for example. i wouldn't want to shoot 180's out of it without one ouch!

I have a 15", 7mm-08 Savage Striker with the factory brake that can be turned on, or off. I don't notice much difference, one way or the other, except that the muzzle flip is about half, with the brake on. Felt recoil seems about the same with the brake either on, or off. The recoil isn't bad, so I usually leave the brake turned off to reduce the noise.

If you can shoot it well without it, leave the brake off. if you intend to use a rifle scope with it you may consider one though.

I have a 10". with 120 it is a joy to shoot, with 140 I do not think a break would help. 140 hurt me :-)

I would not get one, not worth the added noise

I have a brake on my HS 7-08. It is loud but it makes it a breeze to shoot with any load.
