Trying to help a cousin put together his first SSP.....he bought an Encore in 7-08 and we are now down to the scope mounts. He will be using a Burris 2X7 and we plan on using Burris Signature rings......question is....which base???

We will order signature rings in standard, dual dovetail or "Zee" configuration to match the base, but I'm not sure which base is best???

Mark...for a while I was buying all Leupold and Burris bases and using the dovetail style twist in rings. As of late I've gone back to using a Weaver style base and not had a single problem...even on a Contender 45-70 Govt. I like the Weaver system simply for the ease of scope removal and reinstallation w/o having to remove the scope from the rings. I just loosen the crossbolt from the ring base and slide the scope from the base. Then if the scope if going on another gun w/ the same base it will slide right into place and clamp down.

I like the Weaver style bases too, but in steel, not aluminum......I haven't found them for the Encore????

tc sells them they are made by warne .i have most of my encores with weaver bases so that if i want to switch scopes it is easy and fast .

stratton custom steel bases are pretty nice. somebody over at SP mentioned a cheaper place to get em though...but i forget where.

i also prefer the picatinny/weaver style bases on any SP if I have a choice.
