I have a friend that has a 35 Whelen Ackly Imp. in an Encore & absolutely loves it. I can't give you any particulars because I can't remember them, but it belongs to .358hammer over on the SP board. Look him up & he'll tell you all about it. He posts mostly in the big game section over there.

I've shot one,on a Contender(once). The recoil wasn't bad. But I couldn't tell you anymore.

I hope you mean Encore becase the contender cant handle that kind of pressure.

I could be wrong(I probably am). It was in 1989,after a pheasant hunt in Iowa. Whatever I shot I LIKED IT.

It must have been a Contender in 35 Rem. That cartridge was popular especially in NY. It use to be that for big game the pistol cartridge had to be 35 cal or larger. That regulation has changed now. The 35 Rem is loaded at a low enough pressure that it's safe in a contender. The 35 Whelen is to hot for the contender.
