Went to the range today to do the final sighting in of my 30-30 Ackley Imp. barrel on my Contender. I was using 125 grain Sierra spitzer ahead of 34 grains of IMR 4198. This is the best 3 shot group I have ever shot at 100 yards with any caliber. I think it is ready for my Texas whitetail hunt next month.

I also use big targets...makes my groups look smaller... It's a little to the left... Good shooting!

Try shooting with your opposite eye, it will move your group the other way! Nice group!

Hope you get out of the hospital soon. I really do know how you feel. Back in 1988 I was in a bad wreck and spent 8 months in the hospital.

Hello Gman,
I have just purchased a 30-30 AI barrel for my contender and have questions about 125 grain Nosler Balistic tip. I have heard conflicting reports about whether or not bullet will hold up in contact with bone. Any ideas? Will be hunting whitetails.
thanks.

i havn't used that particular bullet yet, but report after report come in of it's great success. i'd not hesitate to use it.
there are several good bullet choices imo.
if penetration concerns you, then you might look at a 150gr nbt....or sumthin similar. just don't choose one that is too hard and will not expand, especially at longer ranges.
i usually prefer to use 125-130gr offerings myself.

Great shooting Gman! One of these days (unless I go to an Encore) there will probably be another 30-30AI (I've owned two but they both wandered away in trades) or 30x444. Should be good goat/sheep rounds forup here.

I haven't used the Nosler BT but Nosler makes great bullets. I would imagine it would be fine. I am using the Sierra simply because of the accuracy I am getting with them.
