I drew blood with my muzzle loading Encore pistol this morning. I was sitting in my blind, about an hour after daylight, when 3 does came wandering in. They were headed straight toward my blind, so I waited until they were about 25 yards out. After the shot, I first thought that I had missed by the way that she took off. I waited a few minutes and went to look for any sign of a hit, not really expecting to see anything. When I got to the point where she was standing, I found a big spray of bright red blood so I knew I had a good hit. Where she ran, she spray painted the trees with blood on both sides of her trail through the woods making it easy to find. She made it only about 50 yards before giving up. The good news is that she ran straight toward my truck. I was shooting an Encore pistol with a 16" barrel that I cut down from a rifle barrel, using 100gr T7 with a 240gr Hornady bullet. I couldn't tell anything about the bullet, since it passed completly through without hitting bone, but the exit wound wasn't much larger than the entrance. The landowner wants me to thin out the does on this property. There are so many that they come in his yard at night and eat his wife's flowers and shrubs. His wife wants them gone! I'll probably go back next weekend since there seems to be a pretty good herd of them.

good shooting,

So far this year I have shot 2 very small does or 2 very large dogs.
one was about 20 yards brad side and bullet went clean trough her, doe #2 was facing me head on and stopped about 30 yards out and would not come in and just stood there looking at me, I took a somewhat quirting away shot and the bullet went in the front shoulder came out the left side just behind the ribs went in the rear left leg went trough it and I found it under the far side skin.
I love my 209x50 encore pistol

Very cool.
I am looking forward to our ML season in Mid Dec. I finally have a doe permit (after trying 6 years) and can't wait to drop the hammer on my 15" 209x50 Encore.
Congrats!

Thanks,
Shawn

I made that forend from a scrap piece of wood and painted it with blace Krylon texture paint. It was the first forend that I tried making, and it turned out to be a little bit large for a standard barrel. When I converted it fit a 16" BP barrel, it still had enough room to drill a hole for the ramrod. It worked out that the extra length of the forend kept me from having to remount a ramrod thimble at the front of the barrel.

believe it or not bigjohn, it's really not bad at all. the barrel has a full bull profile and with my steel redfield mount, signature rings, and burris 2x7 it weighs quite a bit. so recoil is quite pleasant. i was surprised actually the first time i shot it. not really much muzzle rise either. maybe comparable to the same gun in 44 mag or 45 colt. definitely fun!
