Well the big day is just around the corner here in the Empire--
What are you NY'ers carrying for the opener?? Ok, you non-residents can jump in here also..
Im taken the Grizzly 45 win mag on her maiden voyage Cant wait to put the smack down on some brown with a 260gr partition gold..
Like to hear what some of you others will be using--
Oh, and good luck, shoot straight and most of all--Be Safe!!

I'll be there with my Bull-pacs pack frame and about 40lbs of stuff I never use , but fun to carry, my S&W500 on one side in a shoulder rig, and my 16" 416 Rigby slung on the other. I carry both of these here in Pa because you can never be too sure of what is lurking in these small wood lots that used to be orchards! I've heard tales of Elephants and Rhino's and other dangerous game, but I've never seen any! I'll be prepared just the same. Besides, I really thnk it's necessary to use almost 4800 ft-lbs of energy to waffle a 100lb doe! No matter what though, I'm going to have some fun!

I checked zero on the 243 Encore and the XP 100 in 35 Rem last night. I think opening day the XP will be with me. My stand is in the woods and shots are 100 yards or less. I have all next week off. So the 243 will be on stalks and field set ups.

Good luck opening day! I hope everyone gets a big ol deer!!

I will be packing my 8.59 Galaxy.

Local deer do not stand a chance.

I wish I could hunt Upstate NY with my TC Contender for deer and possibly black bear, if one happened to cross my path.

that would be my 35 Rem Contender on one side, and this year , I'm hopin to use my Kimber 45 on the give-away shots. The girls gave it to me for fathers day and the chucks were few and far between this summer- they say the grips'll fall off if you don't get some blood with it - er mebbe I said that. I'd like to score with my 7 TCU, but I don't have a load that gives me the confidence the 35 does. 'Spose I could try my 4 5/8 SBH with the 300 gr xtp loaded out in the second cannelure. I won't have to worry about carrying all this hardware if the rain don't stop... I'll just paddle my canoe.

I will be there as well, but being an out-of-stater from PA and not being able to transport a handgun to the great Empire State, I will be carrying my 50 cal smokepole ! Oh well, at least I can hunt.

Isnt that ridiculous Rupe?? I walked into a Sheriffs office in PA 2 years ago and 15min later walked out with a Carry Permit, but PA residents (or should I say) Non-residents from any state can not even bring a handgun into NY just to Hunt with. Welcome to NY.

It's looking like I'll be using my new to me 30-30 Contender.

I can't see me EVER doing more than passing through (if I can't avoid it) NY again.

I'll either be using my NEW XP-100 in 284 Winchester or my 35 remington with 180gr Hornady SSP bullet over 39.5 gr. H322. My swamp is flooded, and it is still raining in Randolph. Looks like I may need to head to higher ground in the morning, might even carry the Red Hawk in 41 mag. So many to choose from so little time to decide. By the way the 35 remmy load has been used to take alot of deer, I think that Kyode got the load from the same gent that help me out with it " FRED ".

It will be the XP-100 in .308 as its been for the last 11 years. Going to see how the Managed Recoil ammo works on deer this season.
Good Luck all.

For me it's the Ruger SBH Stalker from Magnaport and for long shots, I'll be toting my 6.5jdj. My wife is tagging along with her 308 rifle. It's her first year hunting and I hope she gets one before me. Good luck fellow New Yorkers.

I would love to have been using my encore 308 pistol. But newyork will not give non residents a permit so I was forced to use my 7mm mag.I got a big 4 point on the second day of the season.
