Folks, I am new to handgun hunting. I am going to try a T/C G2 Contender in 309 JDJ for Whitetails this year. What is the best way to carry one of these guns, hostler or sling?

Id say both are about equal.
All depends on your style of hunting too.
I tree stand hunt and opted for the holster since I will be climbing up and down a lot and also want a place to have the gun more the close by for quick handling.

On the other hand, a sling can be helpful for off hand shooting I have been told and plan to give it a try too.
I like the holster for gun protection mainly but both methods will get your gun in and out of the woods/fields about the saem IMO.

There is a guy over on the SP site who started makein custom holsters for these scoped guns since the Uncle Mikes dont really fit the bill.
He goes by "onesonek" over there but you have to sign up to get into anything..

I have a sling on one pistol, a Competitor .308 Win, cause it came with studs and there is no holster readily available that will fit it, and that works fine. My 'Tenders I carry in a shoulder holster, from Pistol Packaging, and love it. My revolvers I carry in a tactical style holster that rides on the thigh and that works great. Whatever you find most comfortable and handy is what you should use. A sling needs to be very loose, long, so you can raise the pistol without having to shed the sling, and this makes it hang lowwwww when carrying and is not the best in the brush. A holster allows close carry and easy access. First time with a scoped 'Tender I'd suggest a shoulder rig. FWIW, Rod.

quite the contrary for me. my slings are adjusted very short, and i use them to steady my shot. it is so short i can let it hang on my chest, totally hands free if needed.

I believe my forend is getting a sling stud this week and will be my mode of transport while Dave fixes my holster situation.

I much prefer a sling for T/C's or really any long barreled gun. I also usually have a belt gun in a holster too but I find the gun is much easier to carry when hunting. Once something is on the ground then the holster would probably be better but if I need to I put it in my pack.

I see by your pic how you mean. I carry around neck and arm and when I raise the pistol to firing position I brace against the body with the strap. Very steady but requires a loose sling. To each their own I guess.

carried my encore with a sling and never had a problem one...jim257
