OK, I've got 15 Contender barrels and 4 frames. Now I went and bought a stainless Encore frame........just like starting from scratch looking for barrels!! I know this could start quite a long thread, but....throw me some ideas.......

gotta love the 15" 7-08! a 15" .308 would be nice! i'm gonna buy a 15" stainless .243 very soon, i hope!

also....ever see a encore handgun set up with a cut down heavy rifle barrel?.....sweet! you can mount a rifle forend on the pistol this way too. a 16"-17" barrel can be used as handgun, or as a compact rifle. how about a 16.5" 300mag? encoredude did have one for sale.......or a 16"-17".223....he has one o them too nice lookers! maybe he'll post ya a pic.

hey ya just migh need a straight wall case too how bout a 12" 44mag....or a 454 casull....or a 480 ruger?

then there's the new 375jdj out in encore factory barrels.....extra weight should tame the beast a tad.

theeeeeeen! there's OTT(on target technologies). mike makes rimfire barrels that do not need a rimfire adapter! oooooh....
the list goes on, and on....... .....sniffle, sniffle....i feel sorry for ya

Dave...Dave...Dave...you poor soul! I have not yet make the crossover! Figured my account can not yet support the urges I would have to buy stuff like a .243, .308, 338-06, and other such barrels! Guess I just gave you a couple ideas...I'll stop there! hehe. If I were to get an Encore I'd pretty much stay with the higher pressure class cartridge...anything that could be fired in a Contender I'd leave in the Contender. Though a .444 Marlin in the Encore would be sweet...you sort of have to be real careful with it in the Contender but could really ramp it up in the Encore!

What have I done!!????
Here's what I have in Contender already, so as not to duplicate:
22LR
22 Mag
223
256 Win Mag
7 TCU
30-30
30-30 AI
357 Mag
357 Rem
357 Herret
375 JDJ
44 Mag
444 Marlin
45 LC/410
45 Long Colt only

.......and now I have to start with the Encore???!!!

My hunting pal wants a 30-06 Encore...should I start with this just to tease..haven't heard much about this chambering in Encore? I like the 7-08 and have two long guns(sorry guys) in this caliber...love it. 'Spose better think of carbine furniture right away too.........what have I done???!!!

IMHO that a 454-12" Encore, no-scope, is brutal with full house loads.

I agree with staying with high pressure cartridges that take advantage of the stronger Encore frame. My favorite Encore barrel is my 15" .375-06JDJ. This SSK barrel looks beautiful on that stainless Encore frame with the black handle and forend. In my opinion it is much more pleasant to shoot than my .375JDJ Contender and it is more accurate also.

7mm-08 has to be in! it is a real shooter, mine is the 10" configuration with a swift 4x32 scope(mountain gun)my 15" 22 hornet is my latest addition,it is just fun to shoot.(probably been better off with a 223,but the hornet interests me...and it is !)and if you ever find a .257 ROBERTS grab it and dont let go...mine is a factory run 15"(no sights).loaded with the sierra 90 gr.hpbt gamekings, you can shoot the same load all year around...groundhog's or deer, they will fall! although im in the process of putting some 85 gr.silver ballistic tips together(curiosity for now)oops of the subject...o.k. you need a small caliber,a medium caliber ,then a big one!one other suggestion 15" 450 marlin...now that thing would be BAD! good luck with your newly discovered addiction, and remember we are here for you...jim257

I don't see any 17's on that list! How about a 17 Mach IV for the varmint fields?

Okay, here's a real shot from left field. I have a 15" 240 Weatherby Encore barrel from Bullberry. It shoots the lights out as far as you can see and it draws a crowd everytime I pull it from the bag. Kinda gotta get used to those belted cases though. If this barrel/cartridge weren't so accurate and just darn fun to shoot I wouldn't like the belted case.

6.5x55 Swede.....and that's all I nede.

Ok, I guess i'll add my 2 cents. How about a 22-250imp, 243 bullbarrel , 260, 308 and/or 30-06. I'm thinking about a real slobber-knocker, like 338-06JDJ or 375-06JDJ. Mucho horsepower. My own problem with these high HP cartridges is scope selection. Man, good luck in your quest. PS. Gary, It's time for an Encore, dude.
