Kind of a bummer Jim. Don't feel bad I'm there with ya. I didn't even get out this year with my bow. I have been working 66 hours a week. Then I take a whole week for firearms season and get nothing. I hunted 4 solid day and never had the opertunity to cock the hammer. I have 2 weekends left. I hope to get at least one before it's all over.

Yep I've been at it since Nov. 18th, and so far nothing has fallen. I keep hoping to get a crack at one with the 15" .243 Encore though before the season is over.

Why do you see the situation as a failure? You have a deer with the bow. Lets fact it, hunting isn't easy and it is not guaranteed. You have a deer. That is a hell of a lot better than most.

I have taken three deer so far here in Massachusetts and Connecticut. One buck with the bow in Mass, two does with the rifle( I wish they'd allow handguns) in Conn. Many hunters get nothing.

You did very well to get one for the season to begin with.

Fixed your statement. I've managed opening day and the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. That Tuesday I went to a WMA I haven't seen much less scouted in 15yrs. It was the last place I took my gandfather hunting (squirrel and deer the year before) before he died. Didn't see anything but squirrels, a turkey, and a few other birds. Different fields brought back memories of being with my grandfather and the fun we had.

I look at this season as a great success so far and I've only seen one whitetail (that's all I saw). The only time a season is a failure is when I can't go.

Being in the woods away from the hoards of humanity is never a failure.

Amen, couldn't have said it better myself.

Hey jim257, Don't consider it failure. You passed on purpose! On the Monday opener, I had a non-shootalbe fork horn within 7 yards of me and the 2x scope on my 500 was there and ready to go. I had to pass, not fail. On two other occassions during the day, I jumped one buck and had another sneak in and I couldn't get shots becausle of the 2x scope and running deer. I know I could've had high probability snap shots with my rifles--but hey, we added a much more difficult factor in the equation; It's called hand gun hunting. I'll take hunting like this each and every day over standing or sitting in a tree stand with a high mag scope and high powered rifle. Yhere are times and places for these typyes of hunts, but it's not in my staking nature. I don't see failure in any of this. I respect the person who can sit on stand for 10+ hours and wait one out; it's not me. Keep at it, but consider the fact that you hunt with a handgun-a true challenge. I can honestly say I'd kill a deer every time I see one when I have a good, scoped rifle. I can't say that about a handgunning!
