I have been keeping my eye out for a SBH in 41 magnum for a while now, but I just have not been able to find one, There seems to be plenty of the 44s around though, so I want your opinions on the differences good and bad between the two calibers. I am interested in things like recoil, effective range, bullet choices and the like. I will be using it primarily for deer hunting. So let me know your opinions and experiences so I can decide whether to hold out for a 41 or just go buy the 44?

Thanks,

The 41 is .41. The 44 is .429. No deer will ever be able to tell the 0.019 difference.

The major difference between the two is availability of factory ammo and bullet selection for reloading.

I have 44 dies, thus, I buy 44's.

IS there a SBH in .41 Mag? I thought the "Super" moniker was reserved for the .44

I've got a Redhawk in .41 Mag and I know they made or make a regular Blackhawk in .41, but I've not heard of the SBH in .41

Of course, I may have missed it somewhere along the way....

4 years ago i got my first revolver...44 mag super black hawk an i loved the thing..then two years ago the got the super black hawk hunter so i was interested in it an got the 41 mag

an well its stimple at first i dident reload so 44 was the better choice but once i got the 41 i fell in love with it...i out shoot my 44 an the recoil is far less felt an has all most the same bullet weight as the 44....i shoot 240 gr winchester HPs in the 41 an the 44 were 250 gr winchester HP's ...if i had to keep only one...i would take the 41 with out thinking

I could be wrong, but the 41s' I had were regular blackhawks but I think the newer super blackhawk hunter is available in 41, 44, and 45.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Ahhh... Super Blackhawk Hunter....I was thinking Super BlackHawk

Still - gotta' love the .41 mag. It's a great cartridge. I'd do it if I were looking for a new revolver.

If you take the same approx weight bullet at the same approx velocity using roughly the same powder charge in similar guns the recoil will be ... about the same.

I wouldn't trade mine for anything! .41 is more fun!

Oh yeah - a real beauty. That's the "Hunter" version, right? Makes you want to go shoot something.

To answer your question as directly as I can........YES, there are a few SBH Hunters out thre in 41mag. There is one on Gunbroker right now. Just do a search on there and it will pop up. I also have both the 44mag and 41mag and love both of them. IMHO.....as far as performance goes........I dont really think there is enough difference (when using handloaded ammo) to worry about. I shoot the SP 265gr WLNGC Boolits and they are awsome!!! I also have a Redhawk in 45LC and I think these 3 calibers when shooting roughly the same bullet weights are about "what and what". Well.........atleast the deer don't notice a difference!

Yep, Hunter with the Bisley grip. It was a limited run and there's a few new ones left out there but can be hard to find. The Bisley grip is just more comfortable to me. The Marble's fiber optic front sight and One Ragged Hole rear peep really make it a shooter. Awesome sight picture.

The "HUNTER" models are available in 17HMR, 22/22mag, .41, .44, & 45LC. The .41 & 45LC are limited runs so if you really want one you better jump on it when you find it. I have all but the 17HMR which is a caliber Im not really interested in but I may get one just for the collection.

Seems like a reasonable enough reason to buy another revolter to me. The .45 L/C Bisley is high on my list as well but even harder to find than the .41! 44's are just too common I guess .

Is the recoil really that noticeable between the two? Also, I looked at the 41 SBH on Gunbroker and I noticed it is a bisely grip. Someone mentioned they think that the bisely is more compfortable. I used to have a Blackhawk in 30 carbine, and I liked the regular grip, what is the big difference in the bisely?
I am planning on loading my own for this one, but I have not started reloading anything yet, so factory ammo aside, are there comparable offerings of bullets in both calibers?

There is a 45LC bisley Hunter on gunbroker w/Leupold scope.
The difference between the two is the grip and the Hammer. The Bisley hammerspur is mounted midway down which is supposed to be a bit quicker for follow-up shots. The grip gives you a fuller feel in the hand and is supposed to absorb recoil more. Personally, I like the standard western grip, I find that it allows the gun to "roll" back on recoil. There is a Ruger Special Edition of Shooting Times on the shelves right now with a very good article on the Hunter models along with several of Rugers new firearms for '07. Again, its another matter of personal preference.

Ive got a .41 Bisley Hunter and a .41 Blackhawk. Ive taken a few hogs and deer with each. Before I reloaded I shot the Winchester 240 gr Platinum Tips with good sucess. I dont think you will be disappointed with a .41.
