I have been looking for a tapered Savage Striker barrel in .260 Rem. After searching around the net there have been a few custom jobbers that have popped up but I can't see throwing down the price of a whole gun on a tube. Does anyone have an idea where a guy could find a "factory" or similar. Thanks, Rod.

Have you tried the classified ads at savageshooters.com? They usually have quite a few savage barrels for sale or trade. Your best bet may be to get a sporter rifle barrel and have it cut and crowned. Midway also sells Adams and Bennett barrels for the Savage. Midway also has their barrel wrench on sale this month if you need one. There is also a .260 Striker on Gunbroker, if you need a complete pistol. I usually try to keep up with Strikers and barrels for sale. Currently have 4 Strikers and a extra barrel that I haven't had a chance to try out.

I'm with Nashcat...look for a take off sporter barrel from a rifle. The taper of these tubes is slightly heavier than the factory Striker tube when cut to a handgun length (14-17"). I'd LOVE to see Savage start making the .260 Remmy in a varmint weight rifle tube!! These make SUPER handgun barrels. I've got two Striker's and been thinking that I need another. That way they wouldn't be outnumbered by the XP's in the safe!

You can check at http://www.switchbarrel.com/default.html as they have used Savage Barrels at times. They also at times have Remington Barrels that have been refit to fit the Savages with the Barrel Nut System. Larry

Well...made one gunshop stop today and guess what I found?!

Thanks for the heads-up but I really am set on a 6.5mm, might have to cut down a rifle barrel but haven't found one of those either.

I've been looking for barrel candidates as well. Looking for a heavy barrel in 7mm08 and now a 22-250! I'll let you know if I see any 6.5's out there...are you looking for a varmint heavy to cut down?

I'd consider anything that will fit the factory stock barrel channel so as not to screw with the 22-250 I have now. A sporter rifle barrel may the the best option as I'd like at least 16" in the end. Will keep an eye out, Rod.

Heavy Varmint will not work if you want to keep the factory barrel channel. Sporter would be close but you would still need to open it up a bit.
The top gun in this pic (22-250) wears a heavy varmint cut back to 15". Middle gun is the 7-08 with a 16.5" Shilen SS Match barrel. The bottom gun is a run of the mill factory 7-08...for now!  Soon to get a stripe camo paint job and need to pick a new cartridge. Thinking maybe .243AI or 6-284.

Nice pieces! One might have to sell the 22-250 factory and replace all with rifle tubes then. I really would like a couple inches over factory anyway. Is there a reasonable outlet for factory rifle barrels that I haven't found yet?

Dan...nice threesome!  I'm not really worried about opening the barrel channel...just another project! Any how, I think the heavy barrels would be the berries and help tame the beast a little unless I'm missing something. Dan...did you open yours up a little using a barrel channel scraper? That's what I had planned to do. I opened a few Georgia Jim's Contender forearms that way to make sure of zero contact with the barrel. I was thinking of 16" to 17" would be about right for total length.

Dan...I think the 6-284 would be the way to go. That's what I'm looking forward to later on down the road. Read a bunch about xphunter and others using something along those lines would just be like AT&T...reach out and touch something.

Nope...I used a socket wrapped with sandpaper. Just gradually increased the size as I opened up the channel.

That's what I did!! The 22-250 was oringally a 22-250. The 7-08 was originally a .223 Rem

There may be....I just nose around the internet gun site classifieds. GGVG is a great place for take off barrels. Sporter barrels are by far the most common and if you went that route you could get a ton of various calibers and have all the same taper.
I had the 7-08 made from a Shilen that was installed on a Winchester then rebarreled after the guy did not like the weight. The 22-250 was just something that I stumbled onto to while surfing the web. I'd like to get a varmint weight .223 Rem and have it rechambered to .22-250AI. The factory Savage .223's are a 1-9" twist while the 22-250's are 1-12". The 9" would shoot heavier .224" bullets and be great for LR "work".

I like your idea of the rechamber, if I decide to redo the 22-250 I may try that. I'm kind of a striker newby, been all T/C's and wheelguns until now.
One other question, are bolts readily available, been thinking about a .204 Ruger as well.

I have 3, like new barrels that I could be talked into getting rid of. 1 in a 14" stainless .223, 1 in 14" .308 stainless w/muzzlebrake, and another in 14" stainless .300 WSM w/muzzlebrake, if anyone is interested. Replaced them soon after I bought them.

I have a 22" factory blue 243 Savage barrel I purchased used but bore looks to be in good shape, previous owner nicked it a little when removing it so it would make a great cut down pistol barrel. Will let go for a cheap price Let me know if anyone is interested
