Hello all i am new here and really like this forum. There seems to be lots of good info here. I live in Alabama and hunt whitetails. I just recently set me up a .460 S%W barrel on my encore as I am interested in getting into handgun hunting. Does anyone else shoot this setup? If so, how do you like it? I shot it for the first time yesterday and WOW its a beast!!

Thanks, its good to be here.

Welcom to HGH!.You will get plenty of good information here.
Don't have the .460 but I have shot one a few times. It is brutal. But, I'm used to nasty barrels. I have the 444 Encore, .375JDJ Contender and a couple of other large bores. I had a .405 but that was more than the law should allow in a pistol barrel. Sent to Florida.
Enjoy the company and ask away for help.

Mike

Welcome "TCHunter"! You will find alot of useful info here and great people aswell. When I joined they welcomed me and made feel right at home. As for the .460..........my hunting buddy has one in a SW revolver with the ports and recoil is wayyyyyyy less than my 45-70 tender! I find it actually a pleasure to shoot except for the cost of ammo, OUCH! I like the 200grn bullets in this round as my purpose for having one (soon) is to have a true 200 yard revolver. Set it up with a sight in of +/- 4" and your good to go!
Again........Welcome and good luck with the .new toy!!!

Best,

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I am excited to be here and to be getting into handgun hunting. I bowhunt and rifle hunt as well. I have just always been interested in handguning for deer so I got the Encore.

As for the cost of the ammo, you are right!! I plan on doing some "plinking" with the 45 LC and .454 in it as well. One of my main reasons for getting the 460 was the versatility.

What kinda handgun scopes do you guys shoot? That is my next step in this process.

welcome to the site, tchunter. there's a wealth of info and a bunch of great guys here. that 460 sure is one heck of a round. as for scopes, my preferences are leupold fixed and burris variables. quality to spare. again...welcome!

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

Welcome to HH TChunter!! This is a great site.

I have a 460 S&W on the way. I'm looking forward to working with it.

I have shot the 460 barrel KYODE is talking about. Very impressive. The recoil is not bad at all, but it has a very effective shark-gill muzzle break.
