I hunt with 10" contender (30-30). Has anyone done any chrono work with the new Hornady Leverevolution round and a 10" barrel? I am curious what the muzzle velocity is with the factory load. I also have a Wichita Internation 10" in 7x30 Waters that I use factory load. I sold all my reloading gear several years ago and don't want to get started back into reloading.

I've been itching to get my hands on a batch of that stuff and put it through the paces...but that's not happened yet!

But with the short 30-30, I highly doubt that you are going to see significant increases in peformance to warrant paying the premium price for that ammo. The advertised claims for that stuff and the gains are from (of course) rifle length barrel 30-30's. When you stat taking inches off of the pipe, the gains that are boasted will be greatly diminshed.

What Dan said.

IIRC, Federal makes a 125gr HP and I know Remington has 125gr reduced recoil. The Rem stuff shoots the same trajectory as the 150gr. I'd hold out for the Federal's if it's still available.

Welcome aboard. I also echo what Dan said. I read an article on the .308 Marlin Express in the new G&A and one of the points they made attributing to the gain in performance of the line of leverevolution ammunition is the powder. It is a proprietary propellant that burns relatively slowly but keeps pressures moving up through the length of the barrel. Like a steady PUSH, rather than a kick in the butt. At least 20" seems to be the minimum with 24" optimal. The only way to gain in a 10" is with a quicker burn. Try www.reedsammo.com if you want loaded ammo taylored for handguns. If it is not listed on the website, shoot Ron an e-mail, they can do most anything and at a very competitive price. Just tell him what you are using, 10" T/C, and go from there.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
