I am new to the forum and so far have been really happy with what I have seen. In the article 6.5X50 Japanese in a T/C Contender by Rich Jakubowsky he was trying to achiever similiar results to the 6.5 JDJ.
I just wondering how he would have done with a 6.5 Mannlicher-Schoenauer? Fred Smith, owner of Bullberry barrel works took this cartridge in a Contender pistol to Africa along with a 7-30 Waters Imp.
Eventhough Fred does't list this on his cartridge selection, he will chamber the round for anyone looking for a 6.5mm cartridge with a little more zip. Based on the reloading data from Sierra 3rd Edition they are able to achieve 2700 fps from a 20" carbine barrel using a 120 grain bullet. I would think if a person were to have a 15" Contender barrel chambered in this cartridge you would get atleast 2500+ fps given a loss of 25 fps per inch of barrel. Sierra also advertises 2400 fps with a 140 grain bullet from a 20" barrel. Again given a 15" Contender barrel a shooter would expect 2200+ fps. This would equal if not better the 6.5 JDJ depending on the bullet weight.
Would this cartridge be worth a try in the Contender as research article and compare it side by side with a 6.5 JDJ barrel?
I have been keeping my eye out for a good used 6.5 TCU barrel to rechamber to a 6.5 Mannlicher-Schoenauer. I would love to give this cartrige a whirl and see if it could equal or better the 6.5 JDJ.
What does everyone else think?
