I am new to Hand gun hunting and I have found a used TC Encore Hunters Package in .270 cal. with a factory mounted 2.5 to 7.0 scope. The gun is in excelent condition! Hardly ever fired. The asking price is $650.00 Deal or no deal. Should I buy it? This would be my 1st hand gun.

Let's see.
Frame - $225
Barrel- $215
Grip - $20
Forend - $20
TC Scp- $220

Total -$700
These are New in Box prices. I can't remember what extras the Hunter came with . Maybe a sling.

I would say used, in great condition $ 550-600.

I have found about what you have mentioned for $500 if someone is really wanting to sell.

The .270 in the 15" would be a great round for hunting.

Welcome to the board Kevin!!
Once you get started at handgun hunting, you are going to be hooked.
As far as the package goes, in reality it's worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.

I've always played with Contenders & revolvers, & just bought my 1st Encore.
It was a blue 7mm-08. I paid $390 for it & felt I got a very good deal. Still do. We'll cal it $400. for round #s, (& I would have given that for it).
While it's in very good condition, there is a little bluing wear, & a couple of nicks in the wood that show it's been around the block. It had a Weaver base but no scope or rings.
I bought a new Bushnell 2-6x scope & Warne rings that cost me another $200.
So I have $600. in my used Encore with New scope & don't feel bad about it.
I don't know where you live or what you hunt, but if the 270 is a good caliber for your situation it doesn't sound uout of line to me if it's all "as new".
Of course even though he says "deal or no deal" I would have to offer him $600 anyway (gotta try), or at least get some ammo thrown in. Worst he will do is say no & then he'll be glad to take your $650.

I assume it's blue & not stainless?
Does it have the "muzzle tamer" compensator? Not really needed for this caliber, just wondered what made the "Hunter Package".

Hawkeye mentioned a "new" frame for $225., but all I've seen new were $300+
Doesn't mean they aren't out there though. There's a lot I miss

Again, welcome!!!!

Well I'll throw my FWIW in the ring. That is a respectable SALE price for a new rig. If in impeccable condition it might well be worth it depending on your level of interest. If it feels good in your hand that's a start. I don't care for the Encores myself, I like the original 'Tenders. If he'll let you shoot it, do so. You may or may not like the experience. It's a big chunk of change to let go on the get go, but the options in different tubes down the road is where the fun really starts. It's only money, pigs won't even eat it!

The package is just a gun scope rings and a case.

To hawkeyes post above you will need to add a scope mount and rings say for $40 and I have not seen brand new grip and fore end for $20 ea. closer to $75+ for the pair so that would put the new price up to around $775 Like what was said before I would offer him $600 if not I wouldn't feel ripped off at $650 especially if it's SS. just my .02

I have seen 2 hunter packages go thru the local gun shop here. The first was a 22-250 in mint condition with the original box of ammo bought with the gun, 4 rounds had been shot. It lasted about 4 days at $550. I really should have bought it. The second was either a 7mm-08 or a 308 I can't quite recall right now. It showed some usual carry wear and frame makrs. It also went for $550 but took about 2 months to move. So if you can get it for $600 or less I'd say you did OK.

The next time I see one for that price I'm going to snag it. Prices keep going up and I need at least one more frame.

I think the cases are around $30.00 too, so add that value in.

If yer going to pay within $50-60.00 of the price of a new rig, bite the bullet and buy a new rig. Remember, anything too good to be true usually is. That extra $50.00 you spend buys a lot of piece of mind, plus you get the factory warranty.

Sounds like an OK deal IF the 270 is the caliber you want.
$600 would make it sweet though.

IMO its a fair deal, not great, but fair to both parties involved.
IF its in the great condition you say it is.

My 1st was a 15" Encore 209x50 pistol with a base and factory wood and it really appeared to not of been shot. Either that or someone REALLY knows how to clean a ML pistol. LOL
I paid $400.
Took my 1st ever SP deer and 1st ever ML deer with it this past season.
The $400 I spent was a speak for those memories.

Thanks,
Shawn
