If you're going to cut the barrel to pistol length, why not just buy a pistol length barrel? Aside from the legality question, any outfit that makes a rifle length can make one for a pistol as well. Depends on who you talk to, but unless your receiver was originally sold as a pistol receiver, cutting down a rifle barrel opens you to "short barreled rifle" charges from the BATF. It's screwy yes, but it happens. Try SSK Industries, Fox Ridge Outfitters, Bullberry, Bellm, or T/C itself. You might find a better deal on eBay, I bought 2 barrels and some rifle and pistol scopes with no problem this winter. Good Luck.

Cutting a rifle barrel down to handgun length is legal, as long as it's on a handgun receiver. All of my XP barrels were cut down from rifle blanks.
You're right about the handgun vs rifle Encore receiver. If it says "RIFLE" on the box, then you can bet that serial number is tied to a "RIFLE" in the ATF's eyes. I still can't understand why TC labels any Encore or Contender sold in the US as "RIFLE".
But no, I don't know where you can get a 450 barrel.

I will keep it legal on the barrels. When I said "pistol length", I was saying 16.5 inches. In no way did I want to give the impession I wasn't going to obey the law. I cut my .308 barrel to 16.5 and I really like it so far, especially with the longer forearm. Thanks everone for your comments and suggestion so far.

Just out of curiosity, is your desired end result a handgun with a 16.5" barrel & a pistol grip, or a 16.5" carbine with a butstock?
If your frame is designated by TC as a "handgun" frame, then there is nothing illeagle about cutting a rifle barrel down to any length (say even 8") & using it on that frame.
You just aren't supposed to put sub 16" barrels on rifle frames.
