what do you use to "burris-signaturize" regular rings (like that word?)? i remember that there were some tricks or materials used to help keep scopes in place and to keep from putting ring marks on the tubes, but i can't remember them specifically.

you can't really "signaturize" them, as the burris singnatures have a plastic insert and even come in +/- .10"-.020" thickness to aid uneven bases or to extend adjustment range capability.

but....to help other rings hold well, not bind, or mark the scope....you can lap the rings to true/even them up, and/or install some sticky back label to the interior of the rings for "friction pads".

thanks, kyode. that's what i meant by "signaturize". just something to line the rings with for a little more grip. i all could come up with was double sided tape, but i don't think that would be very durable.

i really like the signature rings i have on my other bbls. they seem to hold better and don't mar the scope tube at all. a friend gave me one of the talley one piece bases for the encore where the bottom ring halves are integral with the base. i already lapped them and was looking for something thin and durable to give a little extra grip. thanks for the idea.

I go the expensive route and use three Signature Zee rings on all my heavy kickers. But I will share with you my trick of keeping barrel band sling swivel bases secure. My secret is contact cement inside the band and on the barrel. Once it dries, put the band on and tighten the screw w/ a drop of red loc-tite. In 14 years I've never had a barrel band come loose, and every one of my Contender barrels is so equipped. I don't use a holster, only a sling. No reason this shouldn't work on scope rings.

my favorite mount by far right now is a weaver base with 3 leupold vertical split rings. holds great, looks dandy, and so far hasn't marked any scopes.

i'm not sure they are even marked in a specific height they may only have one size....not sure. but....medium height would be my guess as that works on everything here.
yep....i'd think most of the mail order houses would have em.....maybe

Hey guys I saw this article in some gunsmithing books that I have, this guy uses powdered rosin and gets it from Brownells. The article was on a .458 win mag and the scope had been slipping , he used some powdered rosin and the scope quit moving. I'm going to try this if I have another scope start slipping in the rings.

300 winchester magnum it will push a 180gr about 2600fps from the 16.5" barrel. the OTT shark gill brake adds another 2" to that. ky elk rig.....if i ever go.

the friction pads(stiky back label)i mentioned earlier will stop scope slippage. i just use some from work i cut into strips to fit inside the ring halves.
the 3 leupold vertical splits grip so well....i doubt they even need any at all.

My brother had a 458 Win Mag rifle. The scope was slipping in the rings. He tried lots of things. Then one day while talking to a wise old gunsmith. He said to sprinkle the rings with rosin, and if you don't have any just use a very light coat of white flour. Well he used the flour and the scope satyed put.
